Slow Motion Video - First Attempt

This is my first attempt using the Casio EX-F1 (I started a thread about this a while ago) This is of Wendy (archery_mum) shooting her UltraElite today with the camera hand held at 1200 frames per second. The clip I uploaded to youtube has been compressed and edited in Windows Movie Maker and comprises a shot from behind with the arrow leaving the bow merged with one of the arrow hitting the target. The original files are much better as they are widescreen and we were able to view them on our Plasma and step through each frame to check for arrow clearance. I am linking them in to a page on our club website from YouTube.

Friskney Bowmen - Slow Motion Archery

or direct on Youtube - YouTube - Slow Motion Archery Hoyt UltraElite Wendy EX-F1

We are more than pleased with the results and can just imagine how good it would be on recurves and longbows. I can't wait to get it to the club and shoot some footage of our longbow archers.

From a coaching perspective the video's are viewable on the camera monitor and can be directly viewed on a TV from the camera. Uploading is via a USB cable or memory card and one 4gb card can save a lot of video. The clips I was capturing of Wendy from a point where I would say 'shoot' to the bow falling forward were about 10mb.

that's great viewing love the way you see the "ripple" along the arrow at the start and end.

Is that the limbsaver drop away rest?

Its the Trophy Taker drop away but Wendy will be testing other rests as she gets time. On the 42" plasma you can the forks drop, hit the riser and bounce back up just missing the nock as it passes over the top of the rest. From a side view you can see how the bounced forks of the rest nearly catch one of the fletches.

The idea will be to use it on a tripod in conjunction with the hooter shooter but I could not resist taking the new toy out to play with

On club nights we let the club use the bow force mapper and other stuff. The camera will be the same. We don't charge club members for anything

What a fantastic resource. That plus a hooter shooter and not least, people who know. Very nice indeed.

Thats actually very impressive video - much better quality that I would have expected. However, I think it would definately benefit from being mounted on a tripod. How much did this toy set you back Watch_Man? Perhaps I should suggest it to the club back home and see if they want to offer high speed video coaching.

Geoff - yes a great resource and what makes it even better is that (Hidden Hippo) it is affordable. The camera costs £650 + memory card, which I think is an amount a County could afford for coaching.

As well as 1200 fps it will shoot at 600 and 300 fps which are more useful for recording things like back tension release and stabiliser flexing.

In still mode it will shoot 60 x 6mp images per second and the optical zoom is the equivalent of around 38mm to 450mm in 35mm terms.

Where do I sign?
...and how do I manage to fulfill my promise to my present club to shoot their league matches, yet join Friskney at the 'appointed time'?
Never mind, think I've sussed it out.
