spine difference nav/ace

Hi All,

(background info.. winnex holding 39lb 31.5" arow, majesty string)

My current 540 navs seem slightly weak and my old 430 ace's with 120gns are far too stiff. Anyway looking at the Easton selection chart on their website recommend the 540 nav and a 520 ace. The question is, what are your opinions/findings as to how "matched" the two recommendations are ?. For example shooting with a stiff button would a 520 ace unfletched land the almost same distance from the fletched as a 540 Nav ?

Why, are you considering buying two sets and mixing them? Where does the "stiff button" come in?

The 540 Navigator and the 520 A/C/E are two different arrows, the only thing they have in common is the fact they share some components and Easton recommends either as suitable to shoot off your stated setup. Ideally they should both shoot to the same point given the same point weight, fletches etc.

What is the point weight for the Navs? Are the fletches and nocks the same on the 2 sets of arrows?

You're in the same box on the easton chart as me (longer arrow, less holding weight), so i would suggest you need 480 navs 470 ace

That is 31.5" nock groove to end of shaft (not point)?

I've found an answer on paper.. the Easton spine/weight comparison chart. Looking at that a 520 ACE is slightly stiffer than a 540 Nav and both would be recommened for the 36-40lb weight range at 31" but of course on paper is not the real world. (Quicks catalogue)

I just wondered if anyone has shot some Navs and Aces that are both the recomended size with the Easton recommeded weight points and noticed if there is much difference. I would not have expected a 540 Nav to need exactly the same spring tension etc as the 540 ACE even with the same fletchings and nocks or even the same weight point. As I said the remaining arrows out of my current sets have spine ratings too far apart for comparison. No doubt the amount of difference between 2 recommended sizes could vary throughout the range anyway.

With me wanting a 31.5" arrow a 540 nav is listed for 31" +/- 1/2" and 32" +/-1/2" lists the 480" so that confuses the issue even more.

The chart lists both spines in the box, you want the stiffer

I shoot a 30 inch arrow (nock groove to tip of point) i have a set of 480 navs and a set of 520 aces the navs have 120grains break offs and the aces 95grain bulge point (L insert and number 3 point) I am shooting 41-2 lbs.

I have shot them both at 40 yards with my 41-2 limbs and they seem to be the same dynamic spine. since they are both in the same horixontal positionin two distinct groups. The navs are lower of the aces by about a foot mainly because of the point weight. both arrows have g nocks with yellow spinwings.

I also shot them from 38lb limbs and they basically did the same just the groups where a little better with the navs.

I think just try a set of 520 aces and use a bulge point and insert since you can mess with point weights really easily until you get the right point weight because the Navs are kinda heavy especially with such high point weights.

If you want break offs with the 520 aces get around 100 grains.

other than that all i can say is try and find people who have the same sort of set up as you and ask what arrows they used with combination of points.

rhys is right 470 aces.
the figures are static spine measurement and although there is a difference in dynamic spines due to different properties of arrows, this measurement is a good start

I think I'm nudging towards the 470's when I force the wallet open. If I change my limbs next year then I may go up a 1lb or even 2 so if there are any left they will be more suited than the 520's.

Any interest in 7, 31.25" (nock to end of shaft) 430 ACE's with 120gn points ??
