| Playing by the rules It has been interesting over the last few days to "feel the love" that is coming in my direction for comments I have made in good faith, and trying to explain my position vis-a-vis several points raised on the Coaching Course thread - which incidentally have gone well away from the original thread, and ended up in the usual Coach-slagfest. Yet again, it seems that ill-informed comment, speculation, argument and sheer nonsense has drowned out any sensible explanations given by myself and others. As a Coach and Member of the Society I am bound by : the Code of Conduct http://www.sportfocus.com/reguser/dy...fm?number=3048 the Equity Policy http://www.sportfocus.com/reguser/dy...fm?number=7935. It is expected of me that I remain professional, courteous and even-handed at all times. And yet, there are some people who feel it is incumbent upon them to vent their spleen on any poor Coach who raises his head above the parapet, will point out examples of bad practice, and who will generally undermine any of the good work that Coaches have been doing for and on behalf the Society. I take on board these points - the Society is not perfect, but we are working towards making it better. My colleagues and I are trying to make Coaching better. Yes, Coaches are not perfect. We would all love that to be the case. We all want our Coaches to have Senior Coach level experience. But Coaches are human, with all the imperfections that that brings with the package. Nothing is black or white, just a really interesting shade of grey. It has been pointed out to me (by an HR professional) that if some of the comments posted on this site were made in any workplace that the poster would be on a disciplinary. In any other organisation, if there were a problem within a department, then it would be dealt with by the department in question. It would undermine the credibility of the department within the company to have their people and other people not in the department to go on about the failings of the department. I am also well aware that by playing by the rules, I will get kicked in the teeth by people who do not. So if you have a complaint/concern about Coaching, speak to Coaching people. This is not the same thing as hiding it. It is making sure it is dealt with by the correct people. When you reply to this post, think carefully about how you word any replies. And play nice...

| Thank you for this informative, eloquent post, Meddler. Harassment of or by forum members will not be tolerated. The other coaching thread is skating on thin ice, so while discussion is always encouraged, this isn't the place for a slanging match.

| I refuse to get involved in slanging matches because they're boring and don't lead anywhere. I do find it puzzling the 'if it happened in a company it would be a disciplinary' statement.. it wouldn't because if it was a company they would have to produce goods that were fit for purpose or face prosecution and not be able to decide not to answer straight questions regarding their products field testing etc. It's my opinion that gnas coaches were already losing credibility (with exceptions) before aiuk even started and now they are the only ones that take themselves seriously and codes of conduct are now used as hiding places and weapons I hope the new system will work but I'm not keeping dirty secrets for anyone as archery is my hobby and a huge part of my life but count me out of any 'cliques' I'm not a 'company' man never was (even when I worked for a company for 20 years) I try to be fair in life and I certainly don't require a coach code of conduct to live by thanks |

| and what when its the coaches that are arguing.... oh yes, the personal element!! Everyone has their own ideas.. some may have been learned through a book, word of mouth or by personal experience - all are open to interpretation. It would help if people wouldn't catergorically dis any opinions that fellow members have... learn to agree to disagree!!

In your shoes... I'd have given the coaching malarkey the finger a fair few months ago - indoor season LAST YEAR!!! As for arguments... I think some people take it too personal rather than seeing the argument in its context!

Put some more fuel on that fire ![]() Surely one of the purposes of a forum is to allow members to express their opinions. ![]() Personally I whole heartedly support the right of any individual to do this as long as it is legal and decent (and that is what moderators should be for). If you are writing stuff on here that I dont like or dont agree with then I have the option of not reading it. There are of course those who enjoy a good argument even when it becomes heated and even those who enjoy winding others up . This is one of the things that keeps this forum a vibrant place to visit. Certainly livelier than previous posting comparing numbers of "Dave"s in ones club.![]()
