hmmmmm interesting point here.

ARCHERYMAD 1991... " we do get free club membership as coaches.

you can look at this in 2 ways..

1/ it gives the coach a little back for their help.

2/ your the club coach you will coach the club members ,as you get free membership.

another can of worms maybe...

I suspect it has more to do with being in a club.

If you are a member of a club you are expected to give your services for free at the club.

The payment of the club fee by the club is a recognition of the amount of work that the Coach does within the Club.

If I then go to another Club, I then start to go out of pocket, for travelling expenses, time etc.

If I work in and around the County/Area, I get even more out of pocket.

and so on.

If an archer asks me to come and Coach them, and they live 75 miles from me, I am severely out of pocket. Do I do this as a favour to that archer?

So if you add up the time, and coaching time to go and help that archer out, I should charge 150 miles @ 28p/mile, 4 hours travelling time @ £10/hour, plus say 2 hours @ £25... for a nett cost to the archer of £132 plus VAT, giving a total of £155.10.

Makes you think, doesn't it?

I think I would always try and insist on giving expenses, but I know I couldn't do market rates for the time. I am thinking of coaching one day and I know I also probably wouldn't charge for my time only my costs, it would be a worthwhile hobby for me to pass on what I've learnt through coaching myself (and whatever I got taught on courses ).

A thought ocurred to me when I was at the sportscoach UK Summit in Coventry last week when talking about this very subject...

If you get charged for the Coaching, does that mean the Coaching has more value?

So by extension, if there is no charge for the Coaching, does it have no value?

Umm... value and perception of value. Shouldn't make any difference but probably does. I think if the coach records what's been done then that would help.

To answer the original question - yes I would pay for coaching.

How much? What is the general going rate for individual coaching in other sports? I'd probably be prepared to pay £25 per hour for some decent coaching.

i think that that people do more when their getting paid.
a bonus system in work, wow the mind boggles

if we all charge the going rate which has been spoken about in coaching conferences.

then if we weren't giving the goods we wouldn't be getting any work.
adding to that though, we may fall short and lose alot of coaches due to them not getting paid.....if you see the pun....

on the other hand the coaches available would be sort after and making a living.

thus in the end we would have coaches for world class archers.

does this make sense now meddler

pete
