you shouldn't use a clicker until you have your form and a constant draw. first time i've disagreed with marcus26.

how long has he been shooting, how old is he maybe its a case of . he's just healing the bow

???? clicker a form trainer... like saying i tune my bow with stabilisers.

A clicker is an essential piece of gear for learning how to use a recurve bow correctly. It is not a toy you add after you get everything right. It is also not just a draw check as GeoffT correctly pointed out.
My shooters use them from day one.

sorry to bring back a post that you started marcus but isn't a clicker a recurve item ,not a compound....

last words on this. unless your with someone permanently .starting them off with a clicker, when they start to expand as all beginners do they wont know weather they are coming or going because their draw length is inconsistant.....

then they wil start colapsing. then getting dispondant.......

trust me unless the recurve has a valley or wall .......leave the clicker off. untill there consistant......
they may even decide i dont want a clicker........

back to coaching again forcing archers to use something they dont need.

Marcus is, quite correctly, giving recurve advice to a recurve question

No one is forcing anything on anyone. The use of a clicker from the start is a question that is debated at length all over this forum, and, as I suspect meddler is implying in his eloquent post, only waits for a spark like this in the tinder for the forest fire to start up again. Let us take this for what it is, an option that should be considered, and move on.
And please let's not start winding everyone up again!

Marcus, I think I know what you're getting at, but it's the first time I've seen it put that way, could you expand on it please?

I have coached a number of recurvers to World Championships and have spent time learning recurve coaching under Ki Sik Lee.

One of my students spent 3 months without a bow to start archery and on picking it up started shooting 260-270 for 30 arrow FITA indoor rounds, with a clicker. She then won the state championships a few months later. It works.
Without a clicker all you do is remove the one thing that will actually give them an idea on how things are suppose to work.

When shooting correctly the muscles in the arms are as relaxed as possible. When the clicker clicks the release fingers relax only slightly allowing the string to leave the hand. The rest of the body, previously held in position by the bow are no longer and will now move. This will result in the release arm coming backwards and the bow arm moving down and left as it was previously holding the bow up and to the right.
The bow itself should not be grasped and thus will jump from the hand and caught by the sling.
Remember good follow is a reaction to what was happening during the shot and not something you make happen after the shot.

IMO the bow arm should remain static until the arrow has hit the target. by having the bow arm move down and left will cause juniors to pre-empt this and then they can easily fall into whats called throwing the bow arm and causing all sorts of problems, they will start to move the bow arm before the shot has cleared the bow.

If you keep the bow arm static then you are forcing it to stay there and not allowing it to react to the forces that were applied through the shot. It's not a forced response but a reaction.
Remember you are playing tug of war with the bow and when the shot fires that tug is gone from it's end, you should let your body react accordingly otherwise you WILL get exactly what you are trying to avoid.
