| I was approached last night by a coach who wanted to moan about the level 1 course taking place in London. He was specifically upset about the way 3 fingers under was being advocated as the way to start people shooting in the first session. He thought this was a waste of time and seemed worried that people wouldn't pass the course if they told the examiners that this was the case... Did you find your course to be that didactic? |

The reasons given were that this was a good method of getting the correct arm alignment from the start. When moving on to freestyle i.e. with a sight then this arm action is kept and just the reference point changed. If you start with a sight the collective wisdom says that the arm can be all over the place. The aim is to get the draw correct from the start.

One nice thing about the three-fingers-under technique is that it leads to a high anchor, which brings the back muscles into play more naturally than a low anchor. Beginners get an early feel for which muscles should be doing most of the work. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Tut tut - you know "anchor" is not the approved word. "Reference" is used now - something to do with the anchor being heavy and dragging you down.

| he does have a point tho, we're teaching an entire style then max 2 sessions later telling them to forget it? I know it works as its a technique we as a club use, but it is complicated and asking a newb to remember and differentiate a lot
