I hope than most archers would agree that 'coaches' as a group are 'well meaning' and only wish to help others. I'm afraid though that the rate of change is sometimes too slow for some of us and we don't renew.
All things could be improved and at least coaching is showing outward signs that it wishes to improve the standard.

That at least is one step in the right direction imo

OK, Sam, you have your example. But I have seen the amount of work that Level 1 trainees in this part of the world do, and I would say that they are being trained well above what they are expected to be able to do. I have also seen some rigorous testing in progress at the end of the course. So is the problem, perhaps, not the syllabus but variability in delivery and assessment? Are some assessors less willing than others to award "deferred success"? I wonder what the percentages of failures are and whether they are what would be expected of the type of course. Because, of course, one unworthy pass corrupts everyone's opinion of the whole system

We're all human and therefore make mistakes, the system is not perfect but at least a serious attempt is now being made to change for the better.
I dare say that the system was only designed for people that honestly wished to help others and therefore isn't set up to detect cynical people just paying it lip-service.
Everyone on a coaching course is assumed to be there for the 'right reasons' as it's a waste of everyone's time and a betrayal of the effort put into the course by all concerned if they have another agenda imnpgco

Sam,

dont expect level1's to be olympic class coaches. Is your level of expectation too high?
The spec (I dont recall the exact wording) is to teach basic archery to beginners. Some are far more capable and will hopefully go further.
The odd one or two will benefit from more experience.

P.S My gripes about the Coaching 1 course, is not so much to do with the principle of it, but more the fact that it is not defined clearly and called 'Instructors Course'..
