ok.. can someone define something for me please?

In my essay i mention Archery leaders.. but then i realised "wtf does that actually mean?" because as i understand it the system at the moment is (and these are only rough outlines):

level 1: Teaching begginers how to do archery
level 2: Continuing the development for good club level archers/ helping level 1's to develop
level 3: Being able to coach county level archers (hence 'county coach')/ helping level 2's to develop
level 4: Developing archers with the potential to shoot internationally/ helping level 3's to develop

So in my understanding of the system.. the 'Archery leader' isn't actually needed at all (this implies my understanding of the system is fairly accurate)

No one said anything about "very little", just that there are common elements to all sports - and these tend to be the bits that the traditional "Nellie's knee" approach to coaching at this level have ignored.

ok furface who coaches who by you...please

sensible question by the way
I try to coach general club members, no one in particular. When their needs outstrip my abilities, I pass them on to our County coach.

You left out "Level 1". No one at that level would claim to be able to coach people beyond their own capacity. What "Level 1 Coach" does is describe what skill set they have been assessed as having. The skill set is defined, and available for anyone looking for various levels of coaching for them to see if the "Level 1 Coach" can provide what they require.
Actually, the issue is that some people who have NO knowledge of anatomy, NO ability to observe and analyse, NO ability to communicate what they have observed and analysed, and No ability to teach are still calling themselves Coaches.

I know you only have a dig at me cause it's you.

And well in my Area AFIAK i'm the best archer.. and i'm primarly self taught (minus beginners and WAA squad last year with you), but thewayitwas helps me occasionally by looking at video's. Bowman of Gower (also in Swansea) also have a couple of level 1 coachs, and Neath have the same coach who comes down occasionally to help us (and maybe a couple of others) and thats it.

Edit: Ok.. if you want to strech it there is Castle Bowman in Cardiff and Cymric archers in Pembray but i don't know what they're facilites are like

Ah, define "top", define "area" With respect to Bobcat, I don't think we have any "top" archers yet, mainly, i suspect, because of facility problems. If we had one, I would probably approach the CCO/NCO for advice as to who to send them to.

Archery Leader is a completely different kettle of fish. It is the minimum standard for delivering archery sessions outside of GNAS. The course includes teaching the leaders how to shoot, and is strong on safety. A lot of insurers for activity centres set archery leader as a requirement, in some cases, they refuse to recognise coach / level 1!

Reading this post i would actually say that there is more information in the leaders course than the level1. but you cant go on to level 2 with a leaders cert.
