Why are competition sightmarks & scores different to the ones 2 days previously at the club?

I've been thinking about this today, and what question would be most relevant to me. Having been rebuilding my recurve technique, I think the question i'd like answered most, is how do you know what compromises to make in the pursuit of good form?

By this i mean, for example, it was mentioned in a thread recently, that flexibility (or lack thereof) can stop some people getting truly good alignment. We all have some idea of what good line is supposed to look like, but for those that struggle to achieve it, how do they find the best compromise? (and by best i mean that which will allow for the greatest consistency).

If there is such a thing as 'perfect form' how do we know when we are as close as we can get, and at what point do we stop striving for efficiency, and strive solely for consistency? Is there a point where our form is 'close enough' and we should stop changing aspects of our form and focus on making it a subconscious routine?
