Ian, contact Kath Hall, DNAA CCO, she will tell you of any courses that will be running in the near future. If you want to go on a level 1 course, the club will pay for you!! Leaders are not allowed to coach in a GNAS club

Not sure if this entirely correct. As far as I can tell you need no qualifications at all to "coach" in a GNAS club.
Clubs may make their own rules on this but I am pretty sure (and am happy to be corrected) that GNAS has never stated this anywhere.

Actually, if you look at the Leader in respect of the UKCC guidelines then they are working at Level 2.

Anyway back to the original question. Your CCO and RCO need to be informed of courses taking place in their areas. They should be able to point you in the right direction.

Cheers

Andy

That's not true Pete. Admittedly the qualification is primarily for people outwith GNAS but there is no bar on them using their skills and knowledge inside GNAS. In fact there are a lot who do. It is, after all a Nationally recognised award endorsed by the GNAS. The only proviso I can see is that If the Leader is not GNAS they would need to arrange their own 3rd Party and Professional Indemnity insurance.

There is going to be one in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire soon I think

Is this based on the misconception that because leaders dont have to be "supervised" by a level 2 coach that must mean they are a level2 equivalent?
Sorry to disagree with you but "No way!"
There is no way that the information received and the length of the course etc makes a leader equivelent to a level2.
Leaders are for introducing people to archery in a short term have a go situation.
This is why the government community coach programme stipulates coaches at UKCC level2 and above and will not accept leaders.

To my understanding, GNAS do leaders courses over 4 weeks for scout groups, guides, schools and community groups, but they are not recognised in GNAS clubs, that's why we have level 1 for GNAS members.

Sort of. I am not saying that Leaders are equivalent to L2, just that their job remit - not their knowledge - is more closely aligned with L2 than L1

Under UKCC, Level 1`s should work under the supervision of a more senior coach, L2`s dont. Leaders generally work on their own without a supervising senior coach.

I am not saying that Leaders award is anywhere near the standard of a GNAS L2 but it does conform to the UKCC guidelines for L2

From what I can make out, GNAS L2 is way above the standard required of other sports L2. I have a write up somewhere from our local rag which congratulated 3 hockey coaches on gaining their L2 award. This took something like 4 days training followed by a short assessment. Not much different to leaders.
