Question Fantasy coaching

Following some discussions earlier this evening where we pondered the following, I was interested in hearing from AIUK members:

If you could be coached by any registered UK coach , who would you choose and why? It can be a case of different coaches for different skills - mental, physical, individual speciality, equipment etc. I am interested in peoples strengths not their weaknesses - so please do not use this to slag off those who you do not rate so highly.

good question

but assumes youve had contact with enough coaches to know who you think does what well

depending on your level of archery / your region / your club that might well not be the case

which is a shame ...

Yes, but I guess this is aimed at those who are very much in the know - coaching wise. Like you, I too have the county/regional handicap of no real exposure to significant coaching but bear with me on this one.

Potentially excellent thread.

I thought this might be a follow up to the "praise GNAS judges" thread we had recently. A place to tell tales of daring do, efforts beyond the call of duty and sharing of witty anecdotes.

Great to have someone saying something positive about coaches for once.

If I have to name names, Kath & Mick Fitzpatrick would have to be top of my list for quality of coaching, proven experience, (both shoot quite well, if thats important), great fun to work with and general all round good eggs both.

If were a compound archer wanting technical talk, Ben from Merlin probably gets my vote. His 2+ hour talk about cams and things to a class of coach candidates (he was part of the class, incidentally) was spell-binding to say the least.

I could make this list of "praise the coach" much much longer, but I think my £0.02 has run out. Who's next?

I would be very happy to hear about the great attributes of the coaches that you rate so highly. If you wish, then this can be by PM.

As Grimsby Archer said, this could become a very interesting and useful thread. It would be good to be able to make a list of coaches, with names, and area covered(geographical and expertise). It does seem that few archers, so far, have first hand experience with a coach.

Perhaps if you were to open it up to UK Archers who coach as there is no requirement for any coach to be registered as far as I know.

I'm not sure if all of these are registered coaches or not, and this is my own opinion only for compound coaching:

Nichola Simpson and her Husband
Lucy Holderness
Mark Franklin
Chris Jones
Mike Houghton (If he could be persuaded, bribed or kidnapped)
Ben Jones (for technical aspects of setup etc)

I also believe Mike Peart can be a very good coach.

There will be others that I don't know or am not aware of and no disrespect is meant to those who give up there time freely to develop archer. However I think most who have read any of my posts will know that IMHO the best compound coaching and technical advice comes from John Dudley a GNAS member BTW but not a Registered coach.
