The problem with getting a reasonable result from any "straight line of flight" tuning method (walk back, rails, french tuning etc.) is that the result depends on the alignment of the bow (initial arrow line of flight towards the target centre) as well as the set up of the bow. A straight line methodology that doesn't combine adjusting both alignment (pin windage position) and bow set up together is never going to produce a reasonable result.

The classic walk back method is pretty hopeless because it ignores the bow alignment aspect completely. With the French tuning method the problem of alignment is recognized but the solution (the point blank shooting) is very inaccurate.

Once the issue of alignment is understood it can be sensibly applied to any of the tuning methods of this type.

I agree, as the whole point (to me anyway) is to be able to (in good conditions) go from 90 to 30 with zero or very minimal adjustment of windage (that to me is all about alignment) after that's achieved it can be tweaked indefinitley .

It can become so time-consuming that that's all you seem to do! so I now just get a basic setup/tune and shoot for a while then refine it in stages as my shooting improves

Joe, is that a hint that you're brewing up a method for including allignment in the process (or have already done so? Sorry, I haven't visited your site (or any archery sites) for some time now)?

Far too many suggested tuning methods already without adding to the heap

Maybe sometime get around to describing the approach to combining alignment with setup with this type of tuning method.
