Warning - pedant mode on

[pedant mode on]
Oxford english dictionary definition of the Verb Fire
15 b. transf. To propel or discharge (a missile) as from a gun. Also absol. (cf. 13.)

Example from the OED
1708 OCKLEY Saracens (1848) 143 The Persian archers firing on them all the while.
[/pedant mode off]

While I know it annoys some people, I would say, if it's good enough for the OED, it's good enough for me

Sire!!! The pedants are revolting!

...and if your bow goes off with a flash and a loud bang, I don't want to be standing next to you....

Try to forget the arm, and aim with the shoulders, this is something that I am working on at the moment as I have the tendency to be too "open" in my stance which means that as I shoot the bow arm swings to the left sending the arrows left. If my shoulders are aligned before the shot then the arrow will fly straight.
A way to practice this is to stand in the shooting position, look directly forward (So away from the target) and raise the bow. Then turn your head to look at the bow and target. If you're on aim then you've got it right, if not then adjust your body to bring the bow into line.
Hope this is what you were looking for

Daniel
This is good food for thought and puts in words something I have been working on. What it does make me wonder though is about the usefulness of the stances some of the recurvers adopt on the target line. You know the ones I mean, very open stance looks as if their hips go one way and the shoulders another, with what looks to be a twist in the spine. To me it looks awkward and uncomfortable, why not get the whole body lined up with the line to the target? Surely less wasted energy? (I can see the sense in a slightly wider base for stability in the wind, but these guys go way beyond that)

Wider base = more stable.
Deliberate twist = more controllable and repeatable than slight semi-subconscious twist.

Don't think about it, and don't obsess over foot position. It's a nice consistent thing, but to a degree unimportant. Where your shoulders end up relative to each other at full draw is more important.

If you want something to practice it, get a brick. Shove that under one foot (front, back, alternate them) and vary your stance from open to closed and back again. Change it every single shot for a few dozen, and you'll soon figure out how to maintain balance etc that's good enough to hit something.
