Arrow rear hiting the bow

Hi.

I have several carbon arrows that lost one vane. When refletching them I noticed in 4 out of 5 the upper vane (the one at 13 o'clock - being c0ck vane at 9 o'clock) got loose. I noticed a track on the bow shelf indicating the bottom vane had bad clearance too.

My hypotheses:

1- Clearance (I aligned the nock with the c0ck vane and middle of valley betwen opposite vanes)
2- Nocking point (low/high?)
3- Button too soft
4- Form (bad release).

I will work on 1 tomorrow. I don't believe in 2 as bare shafts do not hit to far from fletched ones (at 13m at least) but I will check this tomorrow too. My main suspects are 3 and 4 (mostly).

Regarding 3, when the release is not as smooth the bow sounds different (probably the arrow hitting some part of the bow - I suspect it is the button.) Does it make sense for somebody?

Regarding 4 I wonder what I am doing wrong: too much pressure on the index or on the ring finger? At 30m the arrows are grouping fairly well on the horizontal and spreading on the vertical plane.

The arrows are slightly stiff. Draw weight is about 40.5 on my fingers for a 30" draw length and 30.5" length arrow.

Thanks for any hint.

Elder.

EDIT: shooting with the two eyes open it turns out I can see the arrow flying and I do not like what I see. I mean I do not see it clearly but it does not look right. I think it is due to excessive purporting.

I would first check the brace height.

Brace is within W&W recomended range (23cm for a 70" bow). Tiller is 3mm.

Have I understood this correctly, the vane that is getting loose is the one that is making streaks on the arrow shelf?
Or is it the top vane coming loose and the bottom vane making streaks?
I hope this doesn't sound rude, but the last time I heard about a top vane coming loose when there were streaks on the shelf, the archer was left handed and looking at the arrow the wrong way round. (sorry in advance if you have already checked that)
Can you say when you first noticed the streaks and the loose vanes? Was it after a change of some kind?

Hum... I was absolutely sure till I red this. Still I am almost sure I said it right. I will pay more attention next time the vanes get loose though.

Quite a few: 0.5lb increase in draw weight, faster string, lower brace. Also I have focused on bow hand during training and I think I neglected string hook and release. I thought I should work on form and neglected the bow tune . It seems I must work on both.

McKinney II 500. They seem to be stiff (not sure how much but unfletched shafts hit target not too far from fletched ones). I will recheck this tonight though as it has been a while since I last did it.

i prsume your recurve

1 arrow catching bow shelf ,knocking point too low.
bare shaft doesn.t straighten up till approx 15mtrs so you need to bareshaft a minimum of 18mtrs

2 is the arrow shelf sticking out from the arrow too far.
adjust or bend in with pliers if it is

3 has your pressure button seized, or set too hard or too soft.
any of these pressure button settings will affect the arrow leaving the bow

4 have you been shooting 90mtrs
if your sight is too low the top fletching may be kicking up onto the sight pin

hope this helps
pete

Thanks for the update, EVC.
I would put some lipstick on both sides of the top vane, shoot it and see if there are lipstick traces left on part of the riser, rest, button or sight, or clicker(if you have one). That should indicate what the vane is striking on its way out of the bow.
The marks on the arrow shelf will already indicate where the bottom vane and back of the arrow is as it passes. If the bottom vane shows no scuff marks, the chances are it is getting only slight contact with the shelf.Heavy contact often wrinkles the vanes or loosens them.

your brace height might be within the range suggested by the manufacturer, but it may not be the correct brace height for you and your set up. i suggest increasing/decreasing the brace height incrementally and noting change in the sound of the bow and if you still have the same clearance problem.

i had the same thing with my radian & G3s recently
