Symptom Cause

The post starts with if you torque the bow surely its better not to torque the bow in the first place it seems that use the sight extension lenght to correct for the effects of torque is curing a symptom and not the cause.(I finally managed to get the link to work without crashing my computer)

Sure, but if you could move your sight out one hole and negates the effects of a torqued shot why wouldn't you do it?
If it means the difference between winning by a point and losing by a point why not?

As Marcus said it has been known forever that you can correct for twisting of a compound bow grip with the length of the sight bar extension.

Recurves are different. In this case the longer the extension the better. 18" used to be fairly common indoors. Outdoors of course much less depending on arrow speed. It allows for more accurate aiming, maybe better optically and reduces effect of string-face anchor point variation.

Works with recurve too, problem is that the distance required is such that many can not make 90m. However the actions are identical.
Recurves are also less succeptable to torque so not as important anyway.

Smile sight extension

i have a booster optima and it has 5 equally spaced holes in the arm at present i have it set in the middle hole which does me fine for now i will move it if i find i cant reach the full distance though when the sight was set up by merlin they said middle hole should be about right now i just waiting for weather work and gardening tasks to be in my favour then im off up to the club field to shoot my xx75s and see if i can hit wat im aiming at (torque or no torque)

Hi DT,

Don't expect too much of an XX75 outside. They are not designed to be a long distance arrow, as they are heavy and fat. They will probably be OK up to 50-60m on a calm day.

sight extension

i do have some carbon aero epics but they are too hard to find with a metal detector
so wat is being said is that the carbon arrows are better than my more expensive xx75's im gutted though at least i will be able to find my xx75s in the grass whilst i save up for some more carbon aeros

Nothing wrong with an XX75 or X7 both indoors and outdoors.

My Dad shot 1298 recruve in the early 70's with X7's. (and a few people broke 1300 with them. )

I used them in the seventies as well, shooting a recurve, but I had to have the sight on the back of the bow to get the angle and you had time to light a fag after the loose before the arrow got to the target.
