Teaching partially sighted archers

On the next beginners course my club is running we have a partially sighted person who wishes to take up archery.
I believe he has tried it at St Dunstans and has used their tactile aiming device.
My question is has anyone got experience of coaching a partially sighted archer and can offer any tips.

Thanks, Mark

Mark,

If you pm me your details (e-mail / phone) I can put you in touch with someone in Northumberland who is working on the VI module for the new Level 1/2/3 Coach certificate.

Iain.

Hi Mark,
The tactile sight used to be a fine pointed paint brush, (artist type) on a stand so that the bow hand could be held over the bristles. By lifting or lowering and moving the stand to one side or the other, the initial sighting could be done. After that, the archer is told where the arrows land. Later the archer learns which part of the hand should rest on the bristles and what pressure. This may have been changed but it would work.

I was lucky enough to be involved with a video made a few years ago in my county, D.N.A.A. Coaches from Bruntwood came and lectured us on V.I.P. archers, then we shot the film which included tactile sights, shooting, frames, different levels of blindness etc. etc. If you get in touch with Cath Hall, county coaching organiser D.N.A.A. I'm sure she will be pleased to help.

Are there copies available to other clubs? I doubt our club would be interested, but I am.

Hi,

Do you have any contact details you could PM me - I have had a query from a person in Swansea CC who are looking to start a partially sighted Archery club and is looking to do some coaching and bringing one of the Archers up to coaching standard - As Field Archers we ( WFAA ) don't have anything along those lines but I would love to help her out if I can.

cheers.
