Update on Bow Hand Pressure Points Problem

Hi Guys

I thought I would post a new thread about this, hope thats ok.

I took the kit down to the club tonight and shot using my own bow for the very first time - a truly special moment

As soon as I had it set up I approached the coaches about the issue and they took me to the shooting line to show them what I meant. I drew a few times and apparently hand placement relative to wrist/arm/shoulder absolutely fine! Even weirder NO PAIN at all!

This has got me thinking. I have heard of target panic but is there such a thing in reverse? haha I obviously cant get the form anywhere near correct at home, but get me to the club and at the shooting line with an arrow nocked and a boss in front of me and Im fine! Anyone else suffer from this? I think I will just refrain from "practising" at home and leave my bow alone until I get to the club field from now on!

Incidentally, I shot my bow all night with not only no pain in my bow hand but also the bow didnt feel as heavy (draw weight as opposed to physical weight!) as it did when I was trying it at home. Even more evidence that the form is there for a reason and I guess I must be improving little by little each week (although I will leave that for the coaches to pass judgement on!).

Hubby is entering for the Fonz award this week, I wont spoil it by telling you what he did tonight, I will leave that for him. Tried to blame it on me, cheeky, but even Im not THAT stupid! haha

Opinions on the 'at home vs at the shooting line' thing much appreciated!

Thanks!

Thats a common one.

If you're having a problem or if things are going wrong the second a coach arrives to watch to help you it vanishes!

It's more than that though. Ever notice that pulling a bow without an arrow on the string feels different than doing it with one. It's even more noticeable than the difference between shooting at a target and a blank boss... Something about having a shaft there alters your focus.

I completely agree with you there Rik. Obviously Im only basing this on my very limited experience but the whole shot just feels different. Im not complaining though! I was starting to get a bit hung up on the bow hand thing and actually, dare I say, was dreading my lesson last night purely for that reason. Then I get to the club, set up, and Im fine. Cant believe I spent all weekend worrying about it, that'll teach me!
