| RE: FITA Basic Coaching Manual Thanks to this thread, I now have a copy of this. A preliminary read suggests that there is a lot of excellent material, and, though the structure of the manual is at times frustrating, it could well prove the basis of a usable course structure. (Frustrating, because it is heavily "top-down" so that you only get to the detail after layers of structure. Logical and progressive, but stands in teh way of its use as a reference book).
However, I do feel that, to use it, I would want to radically alter the emphasis of my current teaching method. At present, a Beginners' course is frequently run as a class, with instructor(s) demonstrating then commenting on individuals as they put things into practice. If I were to use the new manual, I would feel I needed to work more often 1-to-1. Course numbers would have to be reduced. And so, if the same numbers were to be addressed, we would need more (more intense) courses. Speaking for myself, I could see burn-out unless each club had more coaches. But beginners would become better archers. |
