RE: Dominant Eye

Well done Mike !

I agree also with the use of a bow corresponding to your manual dexterity for target archery.
M. Lee and many others highly recommend that for target archery in which the use of only one eye is required (the other one is either not dominant, or closed or masked).

However, it might be different for hunters or 3D archers who need to use both eyes. Generally such archers choose to shoot using a bow corresponding to their dominant eye.

RE: Dominant Eye

I have the same problem. I am left eye dominant and shoot right handed. My coach has suggested shooting right-handed and using my left eye with a LONG sight pin. When I find one I'm going to try it

I can see how that would work, but what does your coach suggest you do to align the string when sighting that way?

It'll be fine till you try to change distance, at which point it'll probably all come a bit unstuck...

RE: Dominant Eye

I am ambidextrous to an extent, and left eye dominant - but I shoot a bow right handed! If I play cricket, I bat right handed, bowl left handed. I use a hammer in my right hand, a screwdriver in either hand, I thow left handed. In Tae Kwon Do I led with either side, punched and kicked equally well both sides.

I was very interested in Ki Sik Lees angle on which way to shoot, as in spite of the above, holding and shooting the bow right handed feels more comfortable, and I often shoot with both eyes open, just blinking the left eye shut momentarily sets everything up. I was quite relieved that this is the way to go, as I really didn't fancy trying to learn to shoot left handed!

regards,

Kev

RE: Dominant Eye

For what it's worth I am left eye dominant and right handed and I used to shoot clay pigeons by closing my left eye and using a right handed shot gun as advised by coach. Now that I have taken up Archery, much quieter and relaxing, I still shoot right handed and close my left eye. I have found that by using a large open apeture on a Bieter pin I can see the fuzzy outline of the string, align it with the centre of the apeture and sight on gold at the same time, no problem works for me as someone else said see what works for you and is comfortable. Benefits of shooting right handed is being able to choose from a wider range of bows although things are much better now.

RE: Dominant Eye

I am left eye dominant, but right handed. I have always shot right handed and found that closing the left eye works. I have on the odd occasion opened both eyes and it just doesn't work.

I reckon if you find a technique and get some consitency that that is the way forward. (though close your eye)
