| in the past i've been taught to develop a routine, right from how you hold your bow inbetween shots and get you arrow out of your quiver, to the act of drawing up , sighting and releasing. the thinking is if you start in the same way each time it may kick start a chain of events. just take note of what you do each time and remeber how it feels. in time it will become subconcious - ask a lot of top archers what they do when the clicker goes off and with out shooting to check they may not realise, as they just do it.

| I agree completely with DMU_AC (Not GUM_AC, sorry !). The routine is very used and top archers might re-use theirs from time to time, in order to make sure they do not forget something. The difficulty of an automatic shoot is that it takes a lot of time (rather arrows) to be learned. The danger of an automatic shoot is that your technique may slighlty change day after day without you figure it out. So, working the routine from time to time proves to be most helpfull.

| I had the word STEPS on my spotting scope to help keep my shot sequence a little more regimented, S Stance, open at 45 degrees weight bias over right heel, T Tall, stand big and tall, E Expand, deep breath chest out shoulders open, P Push, bow arm and bow pushed toward the gold, S Slice, drawing hand slips from the string and finishes behind ear as clicker goes off for perfect follow through. Use this one, make your own up helps a lot!!!!

| I would suggest that all archers should have a conscious routine, but the best archers have a different one to the improving archer. What I mean is that improving archers will include in their routine more technical issue like stance, grip position, raise bow arm, anchor point etc, etc. Where as the best archers would still perform these steps, but they do it automatically. It isn’t a conscious thought. Their routing will revolve more around the mental stages of the shot. E.g, breathing control, focus, follow through. |
