Stronger Limbs..Weaker arrows?

If (as I'm contemplating) I purchase heavier limbs this winter, will this adversely affect the behaviour of my existing arrows, which I'm not planning to change? In another thread it has been said that increased string speed equates with weaker arrows.

RE: Stronger Limbs..Weaker arrows?

Simple answer is "Yes". Less simple answer is "It depends".
In a perfect world, your bow is tuned to your arrows, which have the correct spine for your bow. The have a zen-like relationship of perfect harmony. Up the poundage of the bow, and the spine of your arrows becomes too weak, leading to performance deterioration. In a perfect world, you would simply buy new arrows to match your new limbs. In a less than perfect world, a proportion of the deterioration can be countered by tuning your bow; there are also ways (I believe) of effectively stiffening your arrows. This may be enough for you to get acceptable results until you save up the pennies for the new arrows.

Cut 'em. Put lighter points in. If the change in poundage wasn't that great you could cut them a little and put slightly lighter points in and this might bring it in to tunable range for your button.

RE: Stronger Limbs..Weaker arrows?

Even a change of 0.5lb can have a significant impact on arrow tuning. It depends on where you are with your existing arrows, what level you're shooting at and what kind of increase you are expecting. (a bit on the stiff side of the range to a bit on the weak side of the range might not be too bad). The best answer is to borrow limbs of the same length and weight and see if you can bring the tune in.

RE: Stronger Limbs..Weaker arrows?

The arrows I've got (Easton ACCs) I think are a fraction too long for me- I got them last April & as I've only been shooting 18 months there's an inch or so spare to take into account the increased draw length I'm allegedly going to achieve with experience. I'm not sure that I will though...? I'll be tempted to cut them if I feel comfortable after a few months of trying heavier limbs.

Don't....Have them cut instead, unless you have the proper tool to use. If you try to cut ACC's, you will end up with a nice fluffy end to your arrow where the carbon has separated, &amp; the centre core will be somewhat misshapen. Making your arrows unusable </p>

RE: Stronger Limbs..Weaker arrows?

Ah yes- my apologies... When I say, 'I'll,' I meant 'I'll get someone else to...'

My work colleagues are familiar with this approach...

Ooh, it's all so new!!! Anyway I've had an inch and a quarter taken off my Easton allys to strengthen them a bit- can't test them until Sunday though...
