O.K, O.K....I'm supposed to be making quivers but the problemis almost certainly the following:

Merv, take your limbs out of the riser. Carefully, very carefully, unscrew the top of the dovetail on both limbs. Carefull, as there is a spring in there and pops out at great speed and is very small. Remove spring. Tip limb upside down and the stainless steal "button" should drop out, if not poke it out. Clean very thoroughly with WD40 or similar and make sure that inside of Dovetail is spotless and dry. Clean and dry all components and if neccessary warm dry with a hair dryer set on low setting. Replace components.

The click you heard is the spring loaded pin re-seating after tou have shot. Unfortunately if this pin sticks when you draw, the limb does not tiller correctly, hence the arrow drops like a brick when you shoot. Conversely the arrow can sometimes scream over the top of the target even at short range depending on which limb doesn't re-seat.
If this doesn't work to solve the problem, then alas, it looks like the limb and dovetail are worn and might need replacing as the limb isn't seating in the riser properly at full draw. The shock of the string hitting the limbs nocks the pin into place and it is this "click" you are hearing.

I reckon your pins need a good clean out.

If it works, a bar of chocolate is all I ask for.

Old Bloke thanks for letting us know what you had in mind. Having given up your quiver-making time, it would be fitting if that turned out to be the solution. (no pun intended)
Merv, you must tell us what the solution is once you find out. The problem is a first for me;when I shot recurves, the limbs were bolted straight to the riser?!

Old bloke was 100% spot on in his diagnosis, took the button out and cleaned throughly with surgical spirit(both limbs) and the spring and the screw.
By the way put the limb in a plastic carrier bag when unscrewing and that way you dont lose the little spring that comes out the speed of an exocet missile.
Anyhow 200 shots later and not one low arrow i have to say i am delighted with the result and wouldnt have thought to look there in a million years.
Believe me i was amazed at how much dirt was in there and equally amazed at how the limb now just slips so easy into the pocket with a nice click.
I for one will be making this a regular part of my maintainance routine as i was gobsmacked that a bit of dirt could have such a dramatic effect, and believe when i say it was dramatic.
Thanks a billion old bloke and i will be in touch about the chocolate
