bracing height question

hi folks just a quick question that your input would be appreciated on.
At the start of an archery session we all set our brace height.
What do you yourself do next?
do you checkit halfway through the session/competition and readjust or do you not bother and leave well enough alone.
I only ask because i have noticed slight differences in bracing height at the start and end of a session.
Please let me know what you do.
By the way i shoot a recurve

Hi Indybutts,

Can you give us a bit more info.?

What sort of string and limbs are you using, and what's the difference between starting and finishing bracing height; this may help one of our more experienced members give you an idea as to what's happening.

Personally, I'll check my bracing height on setup and only check it again if things start going wrong.

Same here, with Dacron keep on top of the brace height, unless you've put at least 2000 arrows through it, Fastflyte shouldn't be a problem after sighters (IMO). Angel majesty, wonderful! Once set, brace is steady as a rock.

Guess who's using Angel majesty?

Good Morning all
I check at the start of the shoot 8 1/2 " and then just as a confirmation at the end stick the guage on again. So long as it is still ok im happy. I dont remove the string between shoots!

I set my brace height at 9 2/16 when stringing the bow and then sometimes if I've had a lousy shoot check it at the end. It does increase sometimes, but that could well be me not checking it properly at the start

I set the bracing height at stringing to a fixed length. Couple of arrows settle the limbs and string - about a 2mm drop. Remains constant after that. Depends on the string material whether you get ongoing creep. Modern string materials are very stable.

re.bracing height

hi guys im using fastflight string on g3 limbs and the difference between starting and finising might be about an 1/8 of an inch.
It doesnt seem to affect accuracy or the sound of the bow,but i just want to make sure im doing everything correctly.
Its a reasonably new string ........do you think it will settle down.
By the way who makes the angel majesty strings in this country.......have you tried them yourself....how do you rate them.

I think the Angel Majesty's the serving material (according to the site), Angel Dyneema is the string material.

I'm using a similar setup Indybutts - G3s and Fastflight, but can't say I've noticed any string creep - but then it's rare that I check my BH after shooting. I'll start doing it and see if I notice anything.

Strings (even modern strings) settle in after a few shots. I usually double check bracing height after sighters.

and then....? Surely the settling in comes from a string untensioned being put under tension, and then finding a level after "a few shots". So if its wrong after sighters you unstring it (ie un-tension it), alter its length, and then re-tension it......back to square one. I'm not criticising - I'm in no position to know if this is right or not - but it sounds like the archery equivalent to an endless loop
