| Try putting 1/8" tiller on the top limb, this may help the bow to draw up instead of down, but you will have to re-set your nocking point |
| |||
| Do the tillering suggested by Bald Eagle, and when you next raise the bow before you draw, make sure the sight is above the gold, (red or even blue.) Then draw as normally as you can, trying to keep the sight somewhere above the gold until you get to your references and settle. Then lower the sight to the gold and aim more seriously. That should help. |

| You could also try holding the bow using a low grip but don't "heel" the shot. If the bow is set up properly you should be able to come up on gold and hold without influencing it in any way and the bubble in your scope should sit level |

| How long have you been shooting? Are you actually able to place your sights onto the gold or are you trying to do that but releasing prematurely?

| Did you shoot recurve before compound, and if so did you shoot a clicker?

| Sounds like you are perhaps "gold shy" (another word for "target panic"). Do you use a release aid or fingers? How does it feel when you try to get the sight to the gold?

| Dangerous conclusion to jump to - once started on this negative theme it can be difficult to shift from the mind. I suspect that a touch of tiller will sort this out - but I think (if my memory serves) that the earlier post on this subject was the wrong way round. To raise the point of aim you need to add positive tiller to the bottom limb. Tighten the bottom limb bolt half a turn and see how the bow holds then. If necessary, add a bit more. (I may be wrong, and you may need to go the opposite way, but I think I'm correct - in any event, it's an awfully easy correction to make). Adam

| Rather than focusing on lifting the bow arm up to get back on gold, focus on your whole draw line - getting you shoulders back in line again after drawing, stand up straight, and pull a bit harder on the back end before you squeeze the shot off. Be aware also that your bow hand pressure should be towards the target and not up or down, yes tweaking the bow tiller may help you manage that comfortably. Check that your peep is in the right position i.e. you are not adjusting your anchor to see though it, so that your head position is as natural as possible. You'll soon get the hang of it ![]() |

| thanks for all the replys. i been shooting about 7 years. 3 and a half with a recurve and the rest with a compound. i also use a thumb release. i dont think that im gold shy as i never had the trouble with my merlin max2000 but if it is it must have started since i got the merlin xt. i have had other club members look my bow and thay say its set up fine i have also been to merlin there self to have a look at it. i have tryed the high draw and that seems to help but i never seem to hold it on the target for long be hitting 10s all the time |
