Correct sighting

Hi,Ive just bought a sight for my recurve bow, only a cheap one ,its a cartel tournement,my question is when using the sight, should I be sighting the string in line through the sight pin,or do I find a comfortable position I can consistently achieve and adjust the sight to that, thanks for your help, lee

Talking

I think (personnal opinion) that as long as its the same for every shot it doesnt matter. My string runs down the center of my limbs and it is touching the right of my sight ring, if that helps

Like Madmac said really. I draw side of face so the string tends to appear closer to the riser, but what I'm looking for is the same place every time.

i use a cartel 2000 and its a great sight to be honest, get a beiter 8mm sight tunnel in 8/32 thread for about £10 and its a really good sight.

Regarding the string picture i always line it up just outside the sight tunnel, bring it to the same place each time and its fine. Something that may help you is if you find an ideal place on the screwthread to line up the string, put a mark like a thin line of red paint or similar on it.

i dont think there are any rules prohibiting marks like that are there?

i always thought you had to line the centre of the sight pin up with the centre of the arrow, once the centre shot is adjusted and not the string/picture line

When the front sight is on the gold, the string will appear as a blur somewhere. Where exactly, depends on several factors. The position of the string hand at full draw is one.Head shape is another. It is easier if the string blur just about reaches the outer edge of the sight ring. That way it is easy to see if you repeat. It is worth spending time on finding a comfortable position for the way you are bulit.
Standing close to the boss and drawing with eyes closed can help. When you reach full draw, open your eyes and see where the string line is. Repeat until you get a range of results that match each other. Use that as a starting place.
As your draw settles over time, it may change the string picture slightly.

Not sure, I'd check if I were you- I seem to recall something about not allowed markings that can be used as a second reference, but I may be wrong, I'm vague on this.... I know I've hear about serving length if too long could be deemed at extra sight mark (not sure how)..... Maybe a chat with a judge would give you a definiitive answer?

i THINK the serving length thing is because i imagine you could conceivably use the top end of the serving as a rear sight mark ?

i dont do that myself , just suggested it as a training aid to become consistent but i remeber reading about using marks on the string as aiming marks for barebow archers... ill ask the coaches and more experienced archers next club night
