You could also try and alleviate the pressure on the top finger by "un-cocking" your wrist at setup. Instead of your wrist being straight and pressure applied to all fingers the pressure is going to the top bracer (finger). Things to try are
1. Uncocking the wrist at setup and keeping it straight through the draw. If your joints allow this of course.
2. Keep your right shoulder at setup lower which will also lower the elbow and pressure points on your fingers.
3. This one Im not sure about especially as I have only shot with one once! But the little finger thingy on the Soma tab if set incorrectly for your hand size (as was the one I tried) forces your wrist to break upwards under strain of drawing due to the pressure of the pinkie. If you are using the soma experiment with this position as have others. Do a search on Soma and it brings it up.

I like that one, Geoff. A very simple solution to a common problem.

Impa, I had the same problem some while back, before I changed to a 70" bow. I also enlarged the spacer on my tab (I cut and shaped a section cut from a wine bottle cork and taped it to my spacer until I got it feeling comfortable.) But I had to use a much wider piece than I originally thought. Maybe it's just the way I'm made, but I discovered that if I extend my first and second fingers, spread them apart and then bend them as if curling round a string, the fingertips start to converge. It might be worth checking whether this happens to you also.

If you look at the fingers on the string at full draw, or set up a little simulation of it with some string, it is clear that the top finger and bottom finger are the ones being pressed together by the angle of the string. The bottom finger is supported by the middle one and in many cases the bottom finger doesn't hold that much weight. That leaves the end joint of the top finger getting pressed over onto the nock, if you have the flexible sort of fingers. By widening the spacer, you can increase the pressure from the string and that makes things worse. (Ideally, a release aid jaw is the best shape to curl round the string.)
Rather than a wider, separator, try a one that extends further forward towards the end joint of the finger, so the support is where it is needed.

Ok i've extended the space as shown in the pictures before, after advice from OB and a shoot in the back garden to check i've filed the spacer extension down to be quite thin.

Having only shot 6 arrows with it i cant be sure, but it does seem to be helping I'll let you know after the weekend if it works and post some pictures of the final spacer shape.

Cheers everyone for all your help!

You could try something like new-skin or even superglue to give you finger some protection from the abrasive effect of the arrow leaving the bow.
Just paint over the affected area (give it time to dry!!!!!)and you should have some degree of protection without having to modify your technique.

Now that's obvious - so how come I didn't think of it?

Don't beat yourself up Thunk! Unless you have experience in such matters, the obvious is not apparant (spelling?). It is experience that makes things obvious. Thankfully, a P.M. to Rhys, beat what Geoff was saying by about two hours!!
