| Clearance problem on new bow - help! Hi everyone - first posting on the forum! Not been doing this too long but more or less got the bow tuned up with the help of others. Only prob is that no matter what I do I seem to be getting contact with the bow shelf - the fletching under the #### fletch. I've move the nock point up a bit as I was getting lots of contact on part of the shelf nearest me. The button is tuned better but still seem to be getting contact - I notice the marks on the powder more or less in the middle of the shelf but now furtherst away from me - over a session the marking seems to grow longer back up nearly along the shelf. Someone suggested putting a longer button on the bow to push the arrow out more but would that adjust the height of how the arrow travels? Surely if I move the arrow further out then the contact would simply just be further out on the shelf? If my arrows are slightly too heavy for the bow poundage is this likely to cause this contact? Sorry - al a bit of a mystery to a newbie. I've a lot ot learn. Any help appreciated. It's a recurve bow, 35 lb and I'm using 3/39 ACC arrows on a wrap around Spigarelli rest. |

| Contact with the shelf is nearly always nocking point related. The fact that the powder marks move further along the shelf is probably a sign that every release is not exactly the same, which is usual for most archers who are newish to the sport. I would raise the nocking point further and check that it isn't too tight on the arrow nocks. Last edited by geoffretired; 18-03-07 at 07:53 PM. |

| Yes - 35lbs on the fingers. The arrows are the full length I think (32inches) as my draw length is 31 inches. I would have gone lighter with the arrows but due to my draw length I didn;t have much choice. Interesting point also that bow shelf contact is usually nocking point - does that mean I need to put it up a tiny higher? Thanks |

| When my draw length was 31in (before I improved my alignment) I shot 31in 3-28s at 40lbs, and they were a tad on the stiff side. A 3-18 would probably have been a good starting point, and the stock length for that is 31in before you add a nock and a point. You'll have the devil's own job getting decent clearance with incorrectly selected arrows. I've been through it myself. I wish you luck. |

| Try turning your nocks too and see whether you still have clearance issues ![]()

| Thanks for the comments - I'll try to raise the nocking point up a little. As for the arrows - my bow weight is slightly too low poundage for 3/39s and I know that but I'm going up a few lbs with better limbs to around 38 on the fingers. According to the Easton charts this should be in the right range for the arrows eg 36-40 lbs. |

| Arrows are too stiff, move your poundage up.

| Just read my way down this thread. Was about to post that it sounds like the arrows are too stiff, when I see that Marcus has beaten me to it. Whippier arrows or heavier poundage would appear to be the answer.
