How can I get around this one???

Suffering from a form of Central serous retinopathy, when I look at the target my brain knows that I should be seeing 5 concentric coloured circles but I see the bottom right quadrant as a somewhat distorted melted splurge (so is the sight ring), Now most things like, switching off from hassles at work and the usual domestic issues like bill paying I can do quite readily while shooting but this is a here and now thing that can't be removed unless I shut my eyes and quite often comes to the front of my mind at the most inopportune moments. anyone, any ideas????

"...can't be removed unless I shut my eyes and quite often comes to the front of my mind at the most inopportune moments. "

This makes it sound psychological, but I bet that's not what you're driving at ?

Wiki says retinopathy is normally related to diseases of the blood, like diabetes and anemia. Are you suffering from something ?
If you don't already know you are, perhaps you should see a doctor.

I wonder if using a sight that blocked most of the target picture except the gold (and a thin ring of red) would help? I'm thinking of the Gehmann-style iris sights. Presumably blurring and distortion of the flat black of the thick outer ring of the sight would be less noticeable, if at all.

You could test it by fitting a collar of card around your current sight tunnel, so you don't see anything with detail to show the distortion except your point of aim?

Taking the steps to make it less 'in your face' may assist you in the real solution, which is presumably fully accepting the condition and not being put off your shot by being reminded of it. (this sounds more critical than intended: hopefully you catch my drift)

diabetic retinopathy and CSR are different in that diabetic retinopathy is blood vessel seepage into the lining of the eye, What I'm suffering from is so my opthomalagist says is fluid like cysts forming deep in the wall of my eyes. no known cause but linked with stress and sleep deprivation, the sleep deprivation I can relate too, suffering from mild sleep apnea.

I get where your coming from, it's just that bit "I know its actually a set of concentric circles", but when you see something that doesnt look right initially you instinctively take a second glance. it's that that is causing my problem just throwing me enough to be aware of some hesitance. It will probably like you suggest just be a case of shooting more and becoming familiar with what I can see and accept it as the norm.

might a cross hair sight help? at least then you have more reference points to aim with.

I think I've seen this... everything starts vibrating and twitching and you can't focus on things cos everything looks like a pebble got dropped in the pond. I get in at 3am when I've been looking down the microscope for 8hrs.

Go to bed.
