| I agree with schme1440. With regard to sight marks - make sure you're confident that they are accurate. Is your field level where you get your sightmarks? Slopes will affect them and 'most' tournament fields are level. Follow Mr Pearson's advice. C | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I used to hit the pattern good at 100, mediocre at 80, excellent at 60... It got to the point where I disliked shooting 80 yards. I figured out eventually that it was all in my head. I hammered away at 80 until it was just another distance. I still have a tendency to shoot better at 60, though - I just feel comfortable there. And that seems to the key. If I can relax and just shoot, regardless of the distance, then I get good results (all in relative terms, of course).

| Its all mentality... Last year at 70m i jmust hammered the arrows home, getting two or three tens per end, this year my arrows are grouping tightly, just not where i want them to Its all about going out and practising the distances you struggle on. For me this means a lot of Long metric practise (as my 50 and 30m are at a very high standard), for you it just means that you've got to practise 80 yard untill its another distance. What you said about focusing more than you did at 100 yards could mean that your over aiming and trying to force the arrow to go where you want it. A good trick is to manage to concentrate, but relax into the shot at the same time

| Thanks all, I'll just have to hammer away at 80yrd for a while. Maybe with the odd St George thrown in to allow my 60yrd to get me a couple more Bowman scores... Alex.

| I used to have this problem and I agree that the mental aspect is a big factor especially antisipation of a PB based on the 100yard or 90m score I found and was told that I was going out of my comfort zone and my subconcious was having trouble believing I was at that level also I ended up trying too hard and at the end of the day shot a normal score for the round. To get over this I shot a lot of arrows at 80 yards & 70m to get my scores on a handicap par with my 100y/90m. Even now I do not add up my 80yd or 70m scores until the end of the distance. The other problem I had was to do with line and form my form was good at 100/90m but not correct at 80/70m reflecting in lower scores. |

| Higher scores at 100yds than 80yds One thing that may be considered is the stance, moving from 100 to 80 is the biggest difference of all when you think of the angle of the shot. By the way: Hello everyone ...I'm new on this ...Still trying to get used to which button and gadgets to push. Bit like starting up with archery all them years ago.

| Stance? Probably not in a single change of distance. You're talking about, what, an inch of sightmark? 1 to 2 degrees of arc? I don't think most of us will notice that little a change, unless it combines with some other problem... Quote:
