Tounament info & forms

Does anyone know of a reliable calendar of archery events in the UK for 2006? I know we have our very own, but thats only as good as the info posted. I've just been trawling the net for dates to fill up my shiny new wall planner and I can't believe how difficult it is! One thing I still cant quite get my head round, the (our) regional indoor champs are in my home town in Feb. - are the details on the host clubs site? No...on the County site? No...on the regional site then, must be.....No - I had to get details and form from a neighbouring county site!
Also, here in the South West we have a week of archery events at Dunster Castle in June - County champs, field, you name it - probably our most elaborate event and certainly best venue. I was a bit green last year but I'm sure something will suit this year - so when you get the details up north perhaps you'd be good enough to forward them back in this direction!

I have been advised to go through the Archery UK diary pages with a highlighter as that seems the best source- we are lucky in this part of the world that the Wakefield Archery site http://www.thewakefieldarchers.co.uk...mentforms.html does an excellent job of listing local & regional tournaments and has downloadable .pdfs for all the entry forms- I also notice that they have downloadable Tournament & Event Calendar & Planners for both Yorkshire Archery Association & Northern Counties- it may be that your county/regional association has these somewhere.....?

Best of luck trying to get a calander together, I try to do this for the club and have to use, in no particular order:

GNAS website
AUK
NCAS (regional) website
Local club websites
Local knowledge of what was shot when and where in the previous years
County newsletter (I would use the county website but its been down for a year)
Entry forms collected from tournaments.

Ang stiil you will always miss some, at least the record status events get onto the GNAS site.

If one thing has disappointed me over the last year it has been the comparative lack of organisation & information in this part of the country. I read posts here all the time that make me wonder what the reason is. I know that many will say "if you think you can do better..." and thats a fair point, but I've only been shooting just over a year and want to do a bit more before I think about the admin. side!

As another SW resident, I have to agree that info seems pretty sparse around here. AUK is probably the best bet - it works for me, anyway.

You'll also find that there are a hat-full of entry forms floating about at the GWAS Indoor Champs next month.

As a single resource the Mayflower Archers listing is the best one I know, mainly because it includes entry forms and results sheets.

In theory the GNAS tournament diary should met all requirement but that does depend on tournament organisers using it.
If it was organised in a Calendar format like AIUK then that would be an improvement.

I was sort of hoping that might be the case - shouldn't have to rely on that though, should we? I can see what the GNAS do for their bit of my annual fees, and I can see where the money goes at club level, but in between - county/regional - I'm a bit stumped. You wouldn't have thought a newsletter - even annually - with local tournament info would be too much to ask. Am I right in thinking that all tournament organisers must have to register a tournament in order for it to take place? If so, then the ones they register with are the only ones that have all the info in one place and are ideally placed to distribute it.

That'd be GNAS then.

Actually, on the matter of entry forms at GWAS Indoors, must of them will be for local shoots. If you want to be more adventurous, AUK is the best bet.

Can I also say again - if all AIUKer's that compete update the calendar with any shoots they know of, it would help a great deal.

....and if everyone that knows of a shoot joins AIUK the world will be a much happier place!
