Olympic Test Event 20 - 26 August

The Olympic test event for archery ("Good Luck Beijing") is taking place this week. It's being held in Beijing and I think its at the olympic venue (would make sense for a test event). GB have a team there and here's the current status.

The ranking round happened on the 20th. Results were:

Gents Recurve
1st Sky Kim, Australia, 678
GB Archers
6 Simon Terry 669
36 Alan Wills 649
48 Larry Godfrey 636

Ladies Recurve
1st Justyna Mospinek, Poland, 675
GB Archers
12 Naomi Folkard 646
33 Alison Williamson 625
36 Charlotte Burgess 623

The Team elimination and Finals have taken place
Gents Recurve Team
Gold Korea
Silver Malaysia
Bronze USA
GB finished 15th

Ladies Recurve Team
Gold Korea
Silver Russia
Bronze USA
GB finished 8th

The individual elimination rounds take place on Thursday and Friday with the finals happening on Saturday 25th (Ladies) and Sunday 26th (Gents).
Results and info can be found on the FITA website.

The gents scores seem lower than normal. I wonder if they're all okay?

And to bow out in the first round like that; it's unexpected, to say the least...

I was suprised by the scores as well. Maybe it's the smog? There's been all this concern about the level of smog in Beijing, it's possible it's had some effect on them.

I think its quite warm as well. A combination of heat (breathing more) and the smog (not enough oxygen) probably caused some of the poor scores. Plus its been a long intl season. I know they are meant to be fit enough to cope but even F1 racers get tiered late in the season.

Your body uses up energy to regulate body temp. It needs oxygen to produce the energy. Its only a small amount butyour body will use up more oxygen when your very warm. Something like that anyway.

Thermoregulation in hotter climates does cause an increase in heart rate, as blood flow to the skin and outer parts of the body is increased, facilitating loss of heat to the environment, and sweating occurs. However, any increase in breathing is negligible; heat does not make you "breathe more".

In relation to the thread though, increased temperatures can have a dramatic effect the physiological as well as the psychological.
