| WMAS Double FITA Star Lilleshall 30 April - 1 May
I brought my wife down to Lilleshall for her first two day event away from home, and her first double FITA. With about 25 ladies bosses and 42 gents bosses it was the biggest she had been to and her first trip to Lilleshall. The event was organised to its usual high standard by Walsall company of archers, although they had to battle against adverse weather conditions and some equipment problems.
High wind and almost constant rain on the saturday morning caused some delays when the wet target faces ripped away from the target pins in the rain. Shooting had to stop to stick the target faces back down again with los of pins! The rain also caused havoc with the countdown timer lights for a while but everything shorted, sorry, _sorted_ itself out in the end. The sun came out in the afternoon and the shooting carried on. After the delays, the final end of 30m did not come until about 6:30-7:00 (I was too tired to notice the exact time).
Sunday saw mist at the start of the day after a stormy night which left the campers more than a little damp. The wind was very calm all morning (a pleasant change) and apart from a short shower for about a dozen arrows it was dry. Lunch came and went. The sun came out and brought the wind with it. 50m was a trial as the wind was from behind but not quite, but the wind calmed down before the 30m.
Both of us enjoyed the two days and shot good scores. In fact we lost count of the personal bests we scored through the weekend. As always the company on the shooting line was good and made for an excellent weekend.
