European Masters Games 2008

Anyone over 40, and don't want to think you're over the hill, would have liked to compete in the Olympics but missed the boat.

I was lucky to have spent last Sunday morning with Alistair Whittingham, and in almost a throw away comment he told us about the European Master Games. This is a major international competition with several sports being featured including archery. The games are in Malmo, Sweden, in August and September and registration is open now. Entrants enter as individuals but with an estimated 10000 athletes it will feel like a major international sporting event similar to the Olympics.

I would dearly like to go, but have to work out several problems before I can thinkk about it seriously, but for anyone who fancies a go have a look at this link.

Nothing, yet, for the over sixties Damn! Nice part of Sweden, though. The venue is near the sea so there may be a few "sea breezes" to contend with. Yup, a definite possibility . Thanks Cestria.

Hi Doc

Depending on the sport it seems that 'Master' status can be as young as 35. For archery there are two classes. 40-49 and 50 over, age as 31st Dec 2008.
Hope this helps

So, I'll be going for "Grand Master"? That's the next step! I remember that for swimming it was 35 and over, years ago. In Canada and, I think, the USA, there is an over 60s category. ... but I can't remember what they call it. Just as well that's where I'll be soon.
