Thumbs up European Masters Games!

Join the fun in Malmö and EMG 2008!

August 29–September 7
, 2008 the Swedish city of Malmö is hosting the 1st European Masters Games. A multi-sports masters event open for veteran athletes at all levels. EMG 2008 is also a week full of festivities and entertainment. For those who participate, or just come along for the fun of it, there will be plenty of time to explore the city of Malmö.

Games Info
The European Masters Games will be held for the first time ever in Malmö, Sweden the 29th of august – the 7th of September 2008. The European Masters Sports Association (EMSA), The city of Malmö and The Regional Sports Federation of Skåne wish you welcome to a festival of sports, social events and new experiences.

The Games benefit from the patronage of the International Masters Games Association (IMGA), which is recognised by the International Olympic Committee, and which through the European Masters Sports Association embody the Olympic ideal that sport is a human right for people of all ages regardless of race, social class, gender and economic circumstance.

The term ‘master’ is an age designation and does not denote a level of sports proficiency or a particular sports achievement. The European Masters Games, which will take place every four years, are open to everyone.

Participants compete as individuals and not in national teams. There are no qualification or selection criteria to compete in the European Masters Games. The only entry requirement is that competitors satisfy the minimum age for competition specified in the technical rules of the respective international sports federations. The only prerequisite is being a European citizen and (in most sports) 35 years of age or more when entering the competitions. We follow the UN definition of Europé.

Hi Johan

Malmö looks really great. However, transport seems to be a problem, especially for those of us who are getting older! It seems as if air travel to Malmö is fairly difficult, as I would have to travel to London before travelling to Malmö, which is probably about the same distance from where I live.

It looks as if Copenhagen is the only alternative for me, and I really don't want to have to catch a ferry, complicating travel even more. Ryan Air, fly from London, but they won't take archery equipment.

I'm just wondering what the ferry service is like? As the registration deadline is getting closer maybe you could answer this? It would be absolutely fantastic for those of us who are past our "sell by date" if you would be able to enlighten us. personally, I would really like to try my hand at this trip.

Thank you Alistair and Andy for these replies. Looks like I may also be there although I'll just have returned from a cycling holiday in France. I wondered what that structure was on Google Earth and thought it had to be the ferry not a bridge.
