I was at a competition where a small group of archers decided to challenge the judge's ruling on wet weather gear in the then current conditions. A slightly different issue but it has some similarities. The judge simply stopped the competition for a while to ask whether or not the competitors wished to have the judges at the shoot. It was resolved with no shots being "fired".( should that be "shot"?)

My personal opinion: I like the sight of green/white, and I like "dressing up" for competitions. And the Dress Code does give people a focus for low-grade grumbling and low-grade rebellion. Seriously, this is an important part of any organisation. I think every club has one character that everyone else thinks is a pain; if they leave, some previously mild-mannered innocent surprisingly takes over the mantle. Likewise with rules. But if you get rid of the "low grade grumble" rule, the one that takes over in that role may well be one that really splits the sport.

When i go to tournaments it puts me in the right mindset. I normally just wear the white, unles it is cold enough to warrant my green jumper. When i wear the colours, I sort of feel like a pro archer, and everything (apart from scores) seems to go ok.

It's strange, given how many people seem to make a fuss over club colours, how when you look along the line at a shoot not many people are just in green and white...

Some comments from the North Cheshire Bowmen shoot a few weeks back.

1: Definition of Green and white varied. The one person in Red did stand out. With such a mix, it doesn't really look smart, especially the mix of green/white, all white, all green etc.

2: Most common "Club" top seems the be Aardvark Archery fleece.

3: Anyone that thinks it looks good when everyone wears the same colour hasn't realised that a shoot looks like an overcrowded campsite, followed by enough tripods and scopes to look like an explosion in a camera shop. Then everyone has bows in bright colours.

The only thing that looks good at a shoot is the line of perfectly matching bosses, IMHO.

Will get of my soapbox and go home now.

Sponge.

Perhaps a demonstration of the united force against the GNAS dress code at a WRS event would actually prove the point to GNAS, rather than a biased poll in a magazine. Who would be up for it?

I thought you had gone to Oxford NOT the LSE! This is a very 1960s concept and nothing ever really changed from what we were doing in 1968. Plus ca change, plus ca reste meme chose!

I'm suprised how the clothing debate runs on and on and on and on etc.
I posted this recently but it has had little response

http://www.archery-interchange.com/f...t=2428&page=15

If people are that fed up then put finger to keyboard and take some action rather than the usual British apathy! If enough people write then they have to take notice
(steps down off soap box)

For what its worth the feedback I received partic with green was that judges should really look to see if the archer has tried to confirm 'in the spirit of the rules' rather than comparing the colours to a pantone scale.

Totally agree Remus, thought you had better sense Grant, If I were a judge I'd ban that hat for a start!!

Damn colonials, you teach them how to play these sports and then they end up beating you and questioning the rules. Wheres the gratitude in that.

I hear that you have to raise a motion through the Region, which is then submitted to GNAS. The motion is then put forward to the AGM via the Notice calling the AGM, and it will be voted on at the AGM. But the best way would be to request information from the office. I can't find anything in the Memorandum, Articles of Association and Laws.

But Murray, the whole point is that we, the vast majority who pay our subs with our club membership, are not deemed full members of GNAS and are not entitled to vote!
