| why do they call it "euronations"? Can anyone explain to me why it is called "euronations"? I have every respect for anyone who reaches the lofty heights of being invited to shoot for their country but euronations is a bit of an overblown name for what is essentially a home nations shoot, isnt it? There is very little "euro" about it. Or alternatively, why stop at "euro", why not "commonwealthnations" or "worldnations" even. I'm going to upgrade the title of our club champs. | These days the competing countries are England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey. But in the past France, the Netherlands and Germany competed, so it was sort-of "euro". I think I'll update our club day to "Northern Counties Championship". :P |

The Republic of Ireland is not a home nation. Now that you have mentioned it, is anyone going to the Junior Euronations next week. I will be going, anyone else? |

| the world series is so called because a news papaer called The World use to sponsor it and i believe had a hand it its creation and thus the name stuck. as mentioned above, the euronations is so called because any european nation is invited to shoot in it but many dont because of issues of cost etc. at least thats what i was told when i shot in the jnr euronations.

A persistent myth is that the "World" in "World Series" came about because the New York World newspaper sponsored it. Baseball researcher Doug Pappas refutes that claim, demonstrating a linear progression from the phrase "World's Championship Series" (used to describe the 1903 series as well as some of the 19th-century postseason series) to "World's Series" (a term first used in the 1880s and which persisted for decades) to "World Series" Wikipedia.org http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_series |

| well its kinda true. and besides i believe teams from japan have also played in it. just a sport hardly anyone else plays. its like england having a world polo championships i guess. or some could argue the "world" snooker championships. majority of the players in that are british so should they say that should be renamed the british open or british invitational??

| [quote=DMU_AC] its like england having a world polo championships i guess. QUOTE] I believe many South American countries play the game, as well as several Commonwealth ones. I have heard that the competition in question was called teh "Euronations" because someone was taking the p**s.
