| I have offen wondered why shoots are called off, I can assume that lack of entries would mean reducing prizes to 1st place for each discipline etc, but surely just for the social aspect the few that do enter the shoot can go ahead assuning overheads are covered. |

I know FITAs are important for 'world ranking' points but lets not turn archery into a one shoot only bland magonlia land. Shooting different round types is really interesting as it adds a different challenge. Although I would like to see organisors drop the dress code for the non-record status shoots to make these days even more relxed and appealing to the less experienced archer. And before cancelling a tournament give it a plug on AIUK, I am sure people will rally around to support an event. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| On the subject of travelling to a comp, how far do you all go to get to one. We're lucky in that Penicuik is central enough that we can go North or West easily enough without having to stay over too often. Tomorrow is Glasgow, pretty much exactly an hours drive there, bit more on way back due to traffic. If a comp is more than two hours away, we stay over, which gets expensive as there are three of us competing. It's real shame when comps are cancelled, we were nearly in that position with our FITA/Masters weekend in June, the FITA saturday was ok, but the Masters sunday was poor. As a club we could probably afford to run at a loss once or twice, but no more than that. Maybe the organisers of the Double American could look at last years entry, identify the clubs the entrants came from and send round a general feedback request about attendance? This wouldn't identify individual archers who didn't come back to shoot this year, so wouldn't be accusative, but may provide some useful info for next year. I certainly hope it isn't about people chasing ranking FITA scores and not bothering with other types of shoot. Fingers crossed it was just a blip. |

| I look forward to the next one. Entry returned last year as shoot was oversubscribed. This year entry returned due to shoot being undersubscribed. there is always next year. And it's a local club. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I have been organising tournaments for some years now, and have once cancelled a shoot. In my early days, entries tended to come in steadily through the season, as people picked up entry forms and planned their weeks ahead. However, latterly there tends to be a "core" entry, with the bulk of entrants being "last minute". These I have to consider as being optional, seeing what they feel like before they enter, so the decision on whether to go ahead must depend on the size and make-up of the core. In the year I cancelled, not only was this core running at 12 entries, but they were spread thinly over all available categories - I seem to recall that only ladies longbow had 2 entries! This would not have been a tournament. That year, all entries were down across Yorkshire. This year my "core" is better and the tournament is certainly on. I'm afraid to say that, to guarantee a tournament is not cancelled, more people have to make their mind up early on and enter. Surely few of us are so busy that we cannot commit to a Sunday three months ahead? Or is it that our "love" of archery only extends to "I'll leave entering the tournament until the last minute in case something better turns up"?

| My recent experience was slightly different but similar; the tounament wasn't cancelled but the organiser didn't reply to my enquiry/application. I have just come back from a holiday Scotland (280 miles from my home)where, during my middle Sunday the local archery club that was a 2 minute walk from the caravan site I was staying on, were holding a shoot. I emailed the organiser at the email address on the entry form two weeks prior to the event taking place and still to this day I have not received a reply. I will be sending an email in theweek to the club secretary to register my disappointment at not being able take part. So although my reply is not about a shoot being cancelled, it's the other side of the coin where the club can't be bothered to reply to applications to support their event.

| I think most people know their archery calendar quite far in advance....for me, I daren't enter until i know the money is in the bank even though most clubs don't process the cheque until after the event (my bank are also good at bouncing cheques and stopping direct debits when I change my address, so be warned any clubs now!!! note to self....must stop decorating and earn some money! ![]()
