GNAS Indoor Team Tournament 2007 cancelled

Just heard that the GNAS Indoor Team event, which was due to be held at Lilleshall in January 2007, has been cancelled. The Target Committee took the decision because of lack of entries.

Hardly surprising given the entry fee was £50!

At £12:50 each we should add...
Our club had entered but was one of the few that would actually have a 'good' shooter in each of the four categories, so I'm not completely surprised..

A lack of entries is not surprising to me at all. I think the idea was right but the way they tried to introduce it was wrong.
The motivation behind introducing the team event was so that people could gain experience competing as a team (IIRC). However, with an entry fee of £12.50 each for a non-record-status event, shooting a round that, even if it was record-status, wouldn't allow you to obtain any national or world records, it just isn't appealing. The mixed-team idea isn't feasible.

I wouldn't have hesitated to enter in a team of 3 gents recurves if it was: WRS, a FITA 18 ranking round and a team head-to-head following. Since the new team round was introduced in April, no indoor team tournaments have been held and the British and world records are still up for grabs. Even if you only held it for a few hours/days, it would be a thrill to do so! And it would be fun to at least try for the 240 world record before anyone else gets it!

100% in agreement with you, Grant.

Oddly, three gents recurve wouldn't be one our club would have been able to do, in fact we would struggle with three in any category but ladies recurve (by far the majority of the club shoot compound, but not at the commitment to go off to lilleshall for a team event). However, I also agree with both Grant and Adam in principle... a much better format would have been as you suggested.

It didn't need to be four archers from the same club - it was open to any four archers: club, county, region, nation, etc. Theoretically, there could have been a team of Larry, Naomi, Chris and Nicola, and they'd probably have been unstoppable. Again, I like that idea, but not with the mixed categories. I feel open-entry team tournaments aren't common enough!
