Scorton Silver Arrow

Hi All

Dont know if anybody will be going to this years comp for the Silver Arrow, always held in Yorkshire and this it is held where it was originally shot.

Please see :- http://www.scortonarrow.com/mainindex.htm

As a born Yorkshireman from Catterick I am hoping to shoot this year.

Regards Michael

I believe (from my longbow friends) the trick is to aim badly until somebody else has copped organising it for next year

Hello Mate

Well maybe, but as this is barebow comp then aiming is not really an issue, I attended last year as a guest of a friend and found it very friendly.

Regards Michael

Is it? The FAQ says that recurves shoot with sights, stabilisers etc...

This is not a barebow competition, recurves and longbows can shoot the recurves to standard specification, (sights stabilisers etc) the first person to hit a 2" dia black spot in the middle of the gold at 100 yards becomes the captain of the arrow and then becomes responsible for organising the following years event.

The tournament can only be held within the Yorkshire boundaries, and this year is the 298th recorded meeting in the 334th year since its inception in 1673. (the missing years are down to wars)

And before you say that the recurves surely have an edge we in the past decade or so it is a 50/50 split (approx).

There are many other wonderful trophies to be shot for but the most important part is the comradeship of fellow archers (the vast majority of which I only ever see here) and taking part in the oldest sporting event (current) in the world.

Oh and BTW as the venue this year is small the number of gentlemen shooting will be limited (pervious entries given priority and a ballot for any remaining places)

Its my favourite archery day of the year.
