Did you mean Terry Hearn or Barry Hearn?

Or are you a carp angler?

OK I got the names mixed up , it's Barry, but the idea is there and correct, and I feel could be the route to getting archery into the mainstream media. Many would disagree maybe, and I think that "dirty commercialism" would cause mass bouts of apoplexy in locked boardrooms filled with green blazers! "My god Horace [Ford] will be spinning in his grave, well he will be when the burial committee actually get round to the job old boy, haw haw "

And no Stace, fishing for fish that get caught so often they have names gives me no joy, same as fishing muddy puddles filled with 5 feet of carp to 4 feet of water. My tackle shed has poles, feeder rods, float rods, bass rods, pier beach caster rods, and fly rods. I need water that flows, and preferably up & down with a tide, like the mighty Trent & Severn. Or Bude, where I can pole & float fish the canal basin, Float & fly fish the river neet for bass & mullet, beach fish for mackerel & bass from the breakwater, all within 300 yards of each other. Followed by a spot of archery with the Bowmen of Bude. Heaven !!!

Presumably the BBC thought he would be suitable 'cos so many archery clubs use rugby grounds then?

Every other sport I've watched on the Olympics has a former serious practitioner as an expert commentator, except archery. I think I'll write to them and offer the services of my goldfish to do the commentary on the swimming, after all they're both in the water ....

Plus the use of the term "darts"
and I guess the Chinese team would be offended by being called Chinese Taipei.

Best wishes, Mark

Arrows being upgraded to a higher value - how can it be upgraded to a 10 if it was never a 9 in the first place. His use of "darts" as well is annoying - I know darts players sometimes call their darts arrows, but it doesn't work the other way around.

Perhaps we should start a thread about how much we don't like the commentator and how we would just like the BBC to broadcast what gtek is saying.

Or even broadcast what it says they will in the paper, according to todays TV page between 7 pm and 8 pm the BBC will have coverage of the gents archery team, so i watched the one hour programme to see: swimming, horse riding, more swimming, diving and sailing, in all of which GB won 2 medals, in the first bit of swimming! No archery of course

I think you all need to chill a bit.

So what he doesn't quite use the correct terminology. I've been on this forum a year now and seen a lot of moaning about the lack of Archery on tv. The archery has had a lot of coverage from this olympics in a clear well structured format.

The commentary isn't just for those of us that know archery it is for people like my father in law who's watched it cause he knows I do archery and is really into it now.....

It doesn't bother me about the upgraded words.... it is sort of isn't it. The liners things is sort of funny but not really a big issue.

Get over it guys... ffs

I can already see the posts from early september moaning about all the unwanted attention the clubs are getting from new members due to the olympics.

The problem is that most (if not all) the other sports get somebody to commentate who actually knows the sport well - we get a rugby commentator. I'd much rather have someone like gtek who knows the sport and the archers than someone doing it because they thought it would be a laugh.
