Those are some nice close-up shots Rob. At the beginning I thought they were taken by a DSLR. But after a while, I've realized those pics were shot by a FinePix F30! Pretty impressive!

cheers !

im actually a big fan of all fuji cameras - even the lower end point-and-clicks seem to have reasonable lenses and usable functionality

part of my day job is teaching GCSE photography and one of the things i try to instill in my students is a philosophy of doesnt-matter-what-camera-you-use-its-how-you-use-it-that-matters and try to follow that through myself too (two of the projects we do use student-made pinhole cameras and mobile phone cameras to try and illustrate this point)

Hehe.....a student-made pinhole camera! I did that once many many years ago Rob. It was made by some black cardboards and a piece of tinfoil right?

pretty much - a small cardboard box with a black interior - a section removed and recovered with thinner lightproof materials with a tiny hole in it to act as the lens

A small piece of tinfoil can do the job pretty well. What about the film format? I was using 4"X5" B/W negative then got everything done by my self afterwards. That was fun!
It's a back-to-the-basic project and your students' gonna love it!

we do proper back to basics - exposing straight onto paper

and yeah - the students love it - thats why we do it as the first thing on the course - gets them hooked (and has the aded bonus of teaching them a fair bit about the basic physics and chemistry of photography)
