| Trykon, it's good to hear that your boy is battling his cancer. I know what it's like having been there myself. Hopefully he will eventually get the all clear. You should be aware that bowhunting is illegal in the UK. Indeed, hunting of any kind is strictly controlled and is pretty much limited to farmers who shoot vermin on their land. In light of this, your picture is likely to provoke some adverse reactions here. I find it offensive, and I'm surely not alone. Generally we try to bring our children up to value life, rather than to regard it as a commodity which can be disposed of at and for our pleasure.

| I didn't want to be the first to say anything, but I'm in the same boat as Thunk. Whilst I appreciate that bowhunting is a way of life in some parts of the world, it isn't here and, as this is a FAMILY site, I don't think its something we should be showing and promoting to the kids. I'm glad your son is over his cancer, thats fantastic news, but I am a little confused as to which one is him...if its the smaller kiddie, I'm amazed - testicular cancer is VERY rare in that age group.

I am sure the fact that we eat beef offends many Hindu's and eating pork offends muslims, just as much as hunting offends some people in this Country. Unless I am mistaken most of our meat is killed by shooting a large bolt through its head, hanging it upside down, cutting its throat and letting the animal bleed out. No wonder many children in this country think meat comes from a factory I bet your stepson knows where meat really comes from, and I assume you kept the meat to use.

| Everyone is allowed their own opinion, but this is not a hunting website and therefore we don't promote it on AIUK. If we receive a complaint about anything on the forum, we look into it, discuss it and Dave has the deciding vote.

| Watch man, the majority of meat we eat in the UK that is killed here is actually done by electrocution. Apart from poultry, where I believe necks are broken. I know exactly where meat comes from, and I mostly diagree with how its reared and killed. I think battery farming is dispiccable and I'm all for organic rearing. The only reason I objected to the picture is, as Clicki says, we are not a hunting website, therefore we do not promote it, plus we are a family website and there is a possibility that a picture like that could upset someone of a sensitive nature. As it is, I am perfectly happy that there is a link to it, which means people can look if they so wish.

| Whilst I don't want to upset anyones comfortable view of how the meat we eat is killed there appears to be a bit of confusion, They neither fire a bolt through its head or electrocute it to kill it. They do use a shock, or alternatively a captive bolt (think pinball plunger) - but to stun, not kill. Then they hang and bleed them, though this last bit is more precise than it sounds and is a specialist job.

| I think this oft-repeated argument that 'some people don't know where meat comes from' is both facile and insulting, and if the person saying it truly believes it their brain must be on standby. We all know where meat comes from; most have at least half an idea as to how it ends up dead, diced and packaged on the supermarket shelf as well. The fact is that farmed animals end up this way out of necessity (although vegetarians will obviously disagree). That is quite different to animals killed by hunting - in the affluent West the only reason for hunting is for the pleasure of the hunter and the maintainance of his ego. It's only my opinion, but if your ego needs to kill in order to feel good - it's not much of an ego, is it?

| Whatever the wrongs and rights of eating meat, the basic fact is that, in the UK, hunting with a bow is illegal. As a UK based site, we are obliged not to promote illegal activities, and therefore the decision has been taken not to allow anything that promotes bowhunting - in any way. Nor, IMHO, is the site the appropriate forum for the (highly emotive on all sides) discussion of the ethics of eating meat. So let's please cool it!
