SO at 33cm we're talking about 1/6th scale?. Thats on the assumption a longbow is 6FT ISH?.

UUUMMM 1/6th scale compound...how hard would that be.....VERY HARD!

Well, you could scale it up * a little *

I shot 60 yards with this "toy" !

Those tiny longbows are a work of art!

Talking

I have the same Mini-compound as you Murray !! I have fun with it from time to time. I replaced the original arrow rest by a plastic stick-on rest, however I shoot it with fingers.

Someone asked for the draw weight of the little longbow. It is 2.1 lbs, no risk to have a tendinotis !
It is made in one part using a long chinese stick in bamboo.
As for the making: a little saw, a knife to make the general shape, a couple of files, sand paper, a little luck also.
It has a D shape as traditional longbows. It happens to be the best shape for bamboo (during another try, I tried flat limbs without any succes). This is also very important not to have any dent on the back of the bow.
The string is made of one single strand of dacron. This is very difficult to make the ends of the string and the serving (made with an ordinary thread of cotton).

Any possibility for a how-to?

Best woods for mini-bow making are :
bamboo (not really wood...)
rattan-cane (not really wood either...)
osage
hazel-tree
robinia

And generally woods with fine fibres and that are quite flexible.

The recommended length is 30cm as a minimum.
However, I made a 22 cm long bow with bamboo. Very tiny bows tend to be diffucult to handle and more fragile than larger ones. They are also much less accurate.

Medhi, a friend who makes a lot of miniaturized bows, wish to do a take down recurve using laminated woods for the limbs ! This technic has not yet been tested !
As for myself, I'd like to make a miniaturized classic recurve with an aluminium handle... I will be a long term project. For now, I've some osage wood that I would like to transform into nice long-bows : a 50 cm one, and smaller ones with the remaining of wood.

It looks like you had a great day

I'm pretty sure Big D has one of those little compounds!

My last making :
http://ceciletoxo.free.fr/mini/flatosage.jpg
(First picture: rough bow, 2nd: balancing of the bow, other pictures: finished bow)

A kind of miniaturized native american flat bow.
It is made of osage wood, 13" high, 3.3 lbs at 5.1". I'm quite proud of this little bow. It shoot perfectly well!

What a great idea. I can't think of anything,in archery, that looks more fun than that! Did I see two archers with tiny arrows stuck into their heads?);
Is that part of the fun, too?????
Did anyone try clout shooting with them?
