I remember reading a thread on archery-forum.com (which is mainly Australian) and they were complaining about how they were not allowed to shoot competitive scores in the shade. As Marcus said the sun is so strong and the risk of skin cancer so high in Australia that it seems ridiculous to force the archers to shoot in direct sunlight.
