I have also seen the Ryder Cup played in howling gales and horizontal rain, as at Winged Foot in the USA some years ago.
You're right about the expense.

But golf balls ARE (were?) less expensive than arrows. Morphy Mick told me that he had played Golf Archery somewhere in Yorkshire against one of the local golf clubs.
