Gettin' Medieval on some tin...

Take one bodkin medieval arrow:

and add one longbow and a chocolate tin lid:

= lots of fun and lid going "clank"

I intend to do this again in the nearish future with some chain maille and a variety of different armour piercing arrow heads from the 15C. I'm going to try and locate a high frame-rate video camera for that as well.

5th arrow in ends of 2. I only had 2 of my bodkin arrows with me at the time so it took a lot of going back and forth to the line.

After the first one it was a lot easier tho!

Has anyone got any other suggestions or requests of items they'd like to see the results of having a bodkin put through it? I've had Melon mentioned a few times, any more?

Just remember: chainmaille is NOT bullet proof!

If you get get the camera set up, I'd love to see you shoot a 2L bottle of sparkling water! I tried that with an AK47 and made it lovely splash. Perhaps balloons filled with sparkling water may explode better for an arrow.

Update:

I have now tested my other two Armour Piercing arrow heads on the tin lid just out of curiosity. The first one is the Type 7 Needle point.

It made these holes.

You can see that the holes are more rounded than the ones made by the bodking points. That's because the widest part of the Type 7 arrow is the round metal bit which joins the shaft. On the bodkin the widest part is the point itself which is an octagonal shape.

Also my Type 1 Arrowhead:

Made these holes:

A friend of mine pointed out that the entry wound looks like some lips so it's now been dubbed the Kiss of Death.

But then later on I missed and hit an arrow tube that was sticking out of the wall....

We checked to see if I'd dented any club arrows that were in the tube and it seemed that my arrow went a bit further into the tube that we'd initially thought....

woops.
