As for the Olympic clip, it's hard to tell. It does look close, tho. I think the thing you see fall behind is just sparks. Who knows for sure, though.

Barcelona anyone?
I saw a pic taken once from a higher angel and it showed the arrow going clear over the bowl by about 5 meters. From the stadium level it was hard to tell but this pic I once saw it claerly showed the arrow going clean over the top. I may be wrong?

I'd be happy to. It'd have to be a big BBQ for me to hit it though...
More like a bonfire I think.

Here's the pic that got corrupted originally. It's like the other one but a bit sharper because I didn't move as much and the wind didn't blow the flame around as much too. It looks like I'm bunching up my shoulder but I promise it's just my jacket, my technique is better than it looks :S

Your not wrong. Saw a vid of that from the reverse angle. Arrow went straight over the bowl which must have been lit thru normal means. If there had been a gas cloud high enough for the flames to ignite it, it would have been far more spectacular.

Unfortuantely there are no good photos of it, but Purbrook Bowmen recently lit the bonfire at Sigleton Weald & Dowland Museum's fire event
It was great fun, I'll post pics if I can get hold of any worth posting.

Sorry, it wouldn't. Black powder doesn't explode, it jsut burns very fast. To make it explode you have to have it in a sealed chamber, such as a wadded gun barrel, otherwise all it will do is give a flash, but no bang. The Brainiac episode with the exploding caravan full of powder was faked.
I can also say that the archery experiments that they did were scripted, and manipulated to achieve the results that they wanted. I know this to be true, because I was the archer that they used, and I was told that to "prove" that it was impossible to shoot through the axes I had to shoot through the first pair and hit the second. I also had as many arrows as I needed to split the arrow. (and I needed a few I can tell you)
The shooting the apple off the dummy's head, that did happen as you see it.

Daniel
