I know several people who have made the change and love it, only one who has changed back to recurve because he could not get on with compound, I would have thought the majority of compounders would have started on recurve I am guessing I am in the minority.
Ditto there Paul. I knew from day one that compound was for me (loads of bits to fiddle with)

Hey, I shot recurve for 2years, including being on Scottish Junior team an squad with it, then made the change to compound. I didnt find the change hard, but it does posses differant challenges, an theese cant be compared.

I'v found that changing to the 'darkside' has greatly improved my attitide towards archery, I enjoy it much more now . I also like the technical side of it, even if i dont 100% understand it yet.

duno if that helps but its my oppinion.

I shot recurve for about 2 years, then last year I had an operation on my back. I couldnt keep shooting recurve during the healing, so I chose compound. I enjoy tinkering with it way too much, and last year I got to Junior Bowman within 4 months.

Here's how it goes I was coming back to archery after a long lay off and I bought a recurve and started back. After a while my elbows started to play up so I looked at the type of equipment I would need to get a sight mark for 100 yds with a lighter bow and got a price shock. So I bought a second hand compound off ebay and started shooting compound off fingers. I realise now that I was waltzing through a minefield. I picked a bow mostly by chance that was a very good finger bow. The technique was very similar to recurve and I could reach 100yds with plenty to spare.(I even had a sight mark for 120 yds.) I looked for competition to those who had spent a lot of money on 40lbs plus recurves. I found that getting the arrow back through the clicker so much easier.
The I bought a Oneida Pro Eagle. The technique with that bow is very different and it took about three months of shooting to get use to it
Would I do it again? Yes without a doubt The effortlest way these bows discharge the power put into them. Need I say more.

Talking

I have shot Recurve ,longbow and even kyudo and have tried compound ,admitedly the bow wasnt set up for me it was my dads and I only shot a few arrows but i couldnt get used to not a lot of tension at full draw ie in recurve you are pulling against the bow (i shoot 42lb off fingers)but in compound it wasnt even 1/2 as much and found it off putting and with the release it was different but on saying that if its for you go for itbut im back to recurve

I shot recurve for my first two years at uni, then found an old compond in the back of the equipment cupboard....started to play and loved it. Seven years later I am definatly a compound archer.

Though I do own two recurves and do occasionally shoot them. Never enough to regain any sort of form......

Recurve Vs Compound

I year on! I find recurve so interesting! There is the release! The bow arm (aim)! Stance! Breathing! Technique! Mentality! and the more proficient I become the more facinating I find it!
BUT! And at leat 4 years down the line I would like to try compound! Why!
I like the power! I have the upper body strength to have a bent arm although I dont understand it(recurver talking). Im always concerned when I go throught the the clicker and the arrow drop, although Im getting closer to understanding it all. And isn't wheelies cheating!

Well if you compare to recurve scores! You will see a massive increase in your scores on moving over.....then you start to shoot with other compounders and realise just what sort of points they are shooting and it all pales into insignificance....
