What to buy next....

OK,

I have a basic set-up. Winstar Riser, KAP Challenger limbs, Cheap Cartel Sight, undamped cheap Cartel carbon longrod, Magnetic rest, Challenger Clicker and a cheap button. Add to that a set of 12 ACC arrows (EP Flechings), a couple of books and the plan of lots of practice, what is the next sensible purchase?

Does a V-bar and stabs help? Would Doinkers and other dampers be a good investment? Should I save my money up and get better limbs? Better fletchings when I damage the current ones? Should I just keep shooting with this set-up for the next 5 years?

Quicks has lots of nice things, but not sure that I really need it all and bow case contents worth more than my car.

So, if you had my credit card, what would you get?

Sponge.

V-Bar and side rods might help, but they need choosing carefully to balance the bow properly. Sounds like you probably have enought to be going on with (take it from someone who bought everything and it made no difference!). You may have heard other posters recommend buying the best limbs you can and I would go along with that. However, I can recommed investing around £150 on one of the GNAS weekend personal improvement courses at Lilleshall.

I thought I was great until I went on one and learned the truth - it was a hard lesson, and I was not happy when I came home, but everything they showed me has proven to be true!

A shoelace to make a wrist sling so you no longer need to grip the bow.
Worth any number of V bars etc.

I'll probably get horribly flamed for this, but why go out and spend money you don't need to. You've got a good basic setup. Learn to use it, then if you are having problems add to it uner the guidance of your coach. Otherwise there's a good chance of becoming an archery fashion victim. Just my 2d worth.

That sounds like good advice to me. Save your cash for when you want to replace some of the cheaper kit (can't predict which piece it will be first, but my money would be on either the sight or the arrows...).

You can't buy points !

Arrows are always more important than bows. stick a basic setup in the hands of a good archer and he will shoot well.

I wouldn't buy anything extra yet except for the entrance fees for an extra club if you have the time. If you're new to the sport and buy expensive limbs now you will find that in a few months time you will be looking for something with more draw weight - especially if you shoot two or three times a week. Practice as much as you can as often as you can at as many clubs as you can. Many club members will be happy to let you try their gear, after six months you will be ready and more important you will know what to buy next.

Having done the opposite to this and bought tons of gear in the first 6 months - the above advice is really true. I did put the time in and increased my poundage 3 times in that 6 months.

Back to my original statement - get the flask filled and spend some quality time at the range!!
