| why is my poundage so high? Hi all new to the site, think its great! I got my draw weight tested with a digital poundage thing. I use a clicker so a pro was able to check it for me. it came out at 45.5#, which was way above what I expected! I use a hoyt gold medalist with w&w everest pro limbs (70", 36#) my draw length is 29.5cm. does anyone know why it is so high? I know the poundage is adustable on the riser and i have the pockets set up against the outside of the riser (the part facing the target) which i thought was the lowest setting, i tried changing it but didnt feel any difference and i dont have a poundage checker. Im not that strong at all and i reckon my form is suffering... can anyone explain why it is so high? I know this is another question all together but what would be the min poundage required to be accurate at 90m? and the max needed for indoor 18m? thanks in advance for any help guys. this site rocks! |

| my limbs ( WinEX ) do this as well. 25" riser, limbs making a 70" bow and the limbs are labelled 30lb @ 28". i also draw 29.5" and on a bowscale through the clicker, they are 38lb. The limb bolts are practically level with the edge of the pockets, not wound in at all, just a half turn on one to get the tiller right but thats it, no gross weight adjustment.

| That doesn't sound too far off to me, I'm using 34# everest pro's (70" bow) and limbs wound out (low as pos). My arrows are 30.5" long and stop around an inch in front of the button at full draw. I have 39.5# on my fingers. That's just what you get for having long arms, or as they say in the local archery shop, monkey arms! ![]() Paul. |

| Have you calculated the draw length correctly. the draw weight for the limbs is quoted for a 28" draw length, which is the distance from the string to the front of the riser (or more recently to the button + 1.75"). Normally add 2lb for every inch over the 28. |

| Your initial post says 29.5cm, not 29.5 inches. |

Standard draw is measured at 28", +/- 2lbs per inch gives you an extra 3lbs at 29.5 ins 39 lbs + 10% which is the amount you can crank the limbs up on a Gold Medallist = 42.9 lbs. Give or take the vagaries of your draw through the clicker and beyond, and the fact that the limbs, although marked 36lbs may vary slightly, and the fact that the bow scale might not be calibrated accurately and 45.5 lbs is not out of the question. Incidentally, did you decide "Im not that strong at all and i reckon my form is suffering" before you had the weight measured or after? And, if you didn't know the poundage on your fingers, how did you choose the spine of your arrows? Perhaps that's the problem with your form? The limbs you have are as fine for 90m as for 18m. |

| good stuff sorry its 29.5 inches. i have the gold medalists pockets placed so that they give me the minimum poundage. the dude who did the check is a pro shooter and owns a shop so i reckon his calibrations spot on. I got my spine for the arrows by working out that cause im an inch and a half beyond i should have pulled around 38 to 40. its a bit of both with the before and after form suffering. i struggled with them badly at the start and i fatigue fairly quick. im thinking of trading them in for lighter ones. if i shoot forty pounds will i lose alot of accuracy at 90m? great suggestions guys thanks a million for the posts. |
